Instead of buying or collecting real rocks, you can make them with concrete. Here are two methods of making artificial rocks.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Method 1: A Simple Rock
Step 1. Buy a bag of ready-to-use cement and a bucket
Step 2. Mix the contents of the bag in the bucket with water
Step 3. Knead it and shape it until it's almost round, but still a bit bumpy like a rock
Step 4. Wash your hands immediately and let the concrete dry overnight
Method 2 of 2: Method 2: Use a Mold
Step 1. Follow the previous method, adding subsequent operations for a more realistic result
Step 2. Use proper tools and materials, learn by practicing
Step 3. Make a mold
Use rocks from your garden. Clean the rock and find a suitable work surface. Cover the rock with a thick layer of sealing foam. Let it dry and gently peel off the mold created by the rock. You can do the same thing by placing the rock in a container and filling it with sealing foam. Then remove the box. Don't put too much foam.
Step 4. Knead the concrete and pour it into the mold
to prevent sticking, you can use a non-stick cooking spray or smear the rock with petroleum jelly.
Step 5. Knead the concrete following the directions, so that it is thick but can be poured
You can add some dye at this point. You can find it in DIY stores. You can also use rust to give color, it works, but don't put too much on it. Just enough to add some color.
Step 6. Sculpt the rock
If you use a mold, you may not be able to shape the rock. However, if you take it out before it hardens completely, you can still shape it a little.
Step 7. Enrich the concrete
Before pouring the concrete into the mold you can enrich it with leaves, gravel and other things you find around the garden to get a more realistic effect. You can also make flat stones or slabs by putting glass shards or other objects in them before pouring the concrete. When you take it out, the things you put on the bottom will be on the surface.
Step 8. Finished
Advice
- You can also use holes in the earth as molds if you have the space.
- To make some very realistic rocks, first make one with roofing sealer, then use plaster to make a mold. Use this to make durable, lifelike rocks.
- Ask your home improvement store for advice on materials and tools to use. Explain your project and ask questions.
- If you plan on using these rocks for a long time, give them a couple of coats with clear varnish or spray sealer.
