Homemade goat milk soap may be one of the best you'll ever use. Making soap with milk at home can also help you save money, as well as give you the confidence that you know exactly what is used to make it. Here is a step by step guide to show you how to make soap using goat milk.
Steps
Step 1. Put on safety glasses, rubber gloves and a long sleeved shirt that covers you completely
Step 2. When making cold soap always calculate how much lye you need using an online calculator like the one you find on soapcalc.net
Different oils and fats have different saponification values (SAP). This value indicates how much lye is needed to turn that oil / fat into soap. Never try to make soap without first checking the saponification value of the oils you are going to use.
Step 3. Melt the fat or oils in a heavy saucepan over low heat or in a double boiler
If you use liquid oils, heat them to about 32 ° C by checking with a thermometer
Step 4. Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool down to 32 ° C
Step 5. Ideally your oils / fats and lye should have a similar temperature and a difference that is no greater than 18 ° C when you mix them
Also consider that the lower the temperature, the longer it will take for the soap to transform.
Step 6. Pour the goat milk into a stainless steel pot
If you prefer, you can also freeze it in cubes to prevent the soap from getting too hot.
Step 7. Add the lye very slowly, stirring with a plastic spatula
Always add the lye to the liquid and not vice versa.
The lye will heat the goat's milk. Set this mixture aside and let it cool down to 32 ° C, checking with a thermometer
Step 8. Slowly add the milk and lye mix to the oils
Step 9. For best results use a hand blender
Dip it in the dough until it is well emulsified. You have to stir until the soap begins to solidify, that is, until it hardens on the ladle you are using to mix it, and the drops that fall on the surface float for a moment before sinking.
Step 10. If you decide to mix by hand it will take significantly longer
Step 11. Pour the solidifying mix into the molds you previously prepared
Step 12. Cover the molds with a towel and leave them for at least 24 hours to solidify
Step 13. Remove the soap from the molds
If it sticks to the molds put them in the freezer for a few minutes and try again.
