Slime is a substance that amuses and entertains children, but younger ones often carry it to their mouths. To create a slime that is not dangerous if swallowed, you can use ingredients that you typically use in the kitchen. For example, you can mix sweetened condensed milk with cornstarch and sugar. You can also mix gummy bears or mini marshmallows with a vegetable oil and cook it in the microwave. Once you have a sweet, sticky substance, mix it with some cornstarch and powdered sugar. In no time at all, you'll have a stretchy, edible slime!

Ingrediants

Slime based on Sweetened Condensed Milk

  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 400 g can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • Food coloring (optional)

Makes 1 slime

Marshmallow based slime

  • 50 g of mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil or another type of vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of sprinkles (optional)
  • 4-5 drops of food coloring (optional)

Makes 1 slime

Slime based on Gummy Bears

  • 200 g of gummy bears
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil or another type of vegetable oil

Makes 1 slime

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Bake Sweetened Condensed Milk Slime

Step 1. Mix the sweetened condensed milk, sugar and corn starch

Open a 400g can of sweetened condensed milk and pour it into a small saucepan with the help of a spatula. Incorporate 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of sugar.

Step 2. Stir and cook the slime for 10 to 15 minutes

Adjust the heat to medium-high, constantly stirring the slime as it cooks. Once it is cooked enough, it should thicken slightly and become elastic.

Keep in mind one thing: by letting the slime cook longer, the mixture will acquire a consistency more similar to that of clay. Cook it less to make it more elastic

Step 3. Add food coloring if you prefer

To make the slime colorful, add about 10 drops of a food coloring of your choice. Stir until the mixture dyes evenly.

Step 4. Allow the slime to cool completely before using it

Turn off the gas and wait for it to come to room temperature before moving it to a flat surface with the help of a spatula.

The slime may thicken slightly as it cools

Step 5. Store the slime in the refrigerator for 5 days

After you're done playing with it, put it in an airtight container or plastic bag. Keep it in the fridge and use it within 5 days.

During storage it will harden more and more

Method 2 of 3: Make Marshmallow Slime in the Microwave Oven

Step 1. Put the mini marshmallows and oil in a bowl

Measure 50g of mini marshmallows and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, such as liquid coconut oil.

Step 2. Microwave the marshmallows for 10 seconds at a time until melted

Place the bowl containing the marshmallows and oil in the oven. Heat them for 10 seconds and stir them. Continue heating them in 10-second intervals at a time until they melt and become sticky.

Be careful when stirring hot marshmallows

Step 3. Incorporate 4 or 5 drops of food coloring into the marshmallows

If you want to make a colored slime, pour 4 to 5 drops of food coloring into the bowl. Mix everything until the dye is completely incorporated.

Add larger amounts of product if you want the slime to have a more vibrant color

Step 4. In a dish, mix the powdered sugar and cornstarch

Place a large plate on the counter and pour in 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Mix them with a spoon.

Step 5. Transfer the marshmallows to the dish and mix

Using a spoon, move the marshmallows to the dish in which you mixed cornstarch and powdered sugar. Once the marshmallows have cooled down enough to handle, knead the slime with your hands until you get the right consistency to play with.

Step 6. Incorporate a handful of sprinkles if desired

If you want to make it even more colorful, add 1 tablespoon of sprinkles to the marshmallow slime.

Step 7. Use and store marshmallow slime for 5 days

Play with the slime and store it in the fridge using an airtight container or bag. Use it within 5 days, otherwise it will become too hard to play later on.

Method 3 of 3: Making Gummy Bears Slime

Step 1. Heat the gummy bears for 30 seconds

Pour 200 g of gummy bears into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds.

If you want the slime to have a bright color, use gummy bears of the same color instead of variegated

Step 2. Stir and heat the gummy bears at 10 second intervals

Stir them thoroughly and heat them for another 10 seconds if they haven't melted already. Continue mixing and heating them at 10-second intervals, until smooth and homogeneous.

Mixing them will also help keep them cool once they have melted

Step 3. In a dish, combine cornstarch and powdered sugar

In a large plate, pour 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar. Stir them until they are evenly combined and set half of the mixture aside.

Step 4. Pour the melted gummy bears onto the plate and let them cool

Do not touch them until they have cooled down enough to be handled.

Step 5. Mix the melted gummy bears with the cornstarch and powdered sugar

Use your hands to mix them with the dry ingredients. The slime won't be as sticky once you incorporate the powdered ingredients. Also add the icing sugar and cornstarch that you had set aside by mixing them with the mixture.

Step 6. Incorporate 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable oil (such as coconut oil) into the slime by kneading it

Pour the oil over the slime and incorporate it with the help of your hands. The mixture should become more elastic.

Step 7. Play with gummy bear slime

You can start playing with it as soon as you have the desired consistency. If it starts to harden, put it in the microwave and heat it for 10-30 seconds.

Avoid reheating the slime more than once and don't store it, as it will harden rather quickly

Advice

  • If you've added food coloring to the slime, play away from rugs, carpets, or upholstered furniture. The slime dye can stain these surfaces.
  • Use warm soapy water to remove slime residue from the playing surface and hands.
  • Children shouldn't make slime on their own. They must always be supervised by an adult.
