We all know how harmful the sun is for our skin, but how many of us have not "transgressed" and forgotten to apply sunscreen? Surely you have done it several times too. The sun is bad for any skin type and should be avoided to prevent serious damage, including cancer.
If you have already been exposed to the sun and now have a bad sunburn, there is no going back, but it is possible to relieve the pain.
Steps
Step 1. Wash the burned area thoroughly with mild soap and warm water
Avoid rubbing it with a towel - it will only increase irritation.
Step 2. To relieve pain, Noxzema treatment is helpful
Using your fingertips, gently massage the red area with a thick layer of this product. Let the area air dry completely (this can take up to 2 hours). Next, rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
Step 3. Apply cold compresses
If you don't have an instant ice pack available, soak a towel in ice water and apply it to the sunburned area. You can also fill a plastic bag with ice and wrap it with a towel to create a compress. Do not apply it directly to the skin, as it may stick and cause the burn to open, exposing the area to possible infection.
Step 4. Apply aloe vera gel to the affected area
An aloe vera gel enriched with lidocaine is the best choice, as it cools the burn and numbs the area a little. Lidocaine is a topical pain reliever that will help relieve painful symptoms. Request this product at the pharmacy.
Step 5. Take a generic pain reliever if needed
Follow the instructions on the leaflet for the dosage.
Step 6. Once the skin begins to peel off, it is vital to keep the area clean and hydrated
Try to avoid perfume-filled lotions, as they may cause irritation. Some lip balms are useful for this purpose. That's right, the very products you use for chapped lips. Choose one that contains petroleum jelly and beeswax. Apply the ointment generously to the affected area to relieve pain and avoid further peeling. Do not use it on areas that have blisters.
Step 7. Avoid the sun while the skin is healing
Further exposure to the sun could cause damage that will require medical attention. If blisters develop on the skin, the burn is very painful or accompanied by fever, intense thirst or fatigue, consult a doctor immediately. They could be symptoms of a more serious condition.
