Noni, or Indian mulberry, has been used by Pacific peoples for thousands of years to treat health problems; it is believed to be effective against a wide range of ailments, from low energy to cancer. You can easily make the juice at home by blending the fruits and filtering the seeds; you can also buy a commercial one or an extract. As this is a herbal remedy that has not been proven effective, consult your doctor before taking it and discontinue use if it has any adverse effects.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Blend the Fruit
Step 1. Let the unripe fruit sit for a few days
Unripe noni is hard to the touch, so leave it on the kitchen counter for a few days; after this time the peel becomes clear and you can use it when the pulp is soft.
Noni juice is also sold in bottle, powder form, capsule form, and dried fruit can also be found. These products can be consumed immediately, saving you the unpleasant taste and smell of fresh juice
Step 2. Blend the fruit with water
Rinse it and put it in the glass of the appliance, which may need a little water to work; if necessary, add 120 ml of cold water or even more. Blend the noni until you get a thick mixture similar to apple puree.
If the whole fruit doesn't fit in the blender, you can slice it into small portions; as it is very soft when ripe, you can just mash it with your hands
Step 3. Strain the juice to remove the seeds
Take a colander or sieve and hold it over an empty bowl or funnel tucked into a glass. Pour the liquid through the sieve and use a spatula to mix the pulp and facilitate the passage between the meshes. Also use the spatula to scrape off any residue left on the sides of the blender; the strainer should hold all the seeds.
Step 4. Mix the juice with the water
The freshly blended mixture is probably still quite thick: pour some water to dilute it and drink it more easily. You can add as much water as you like to the bowl or glass.
You should only drink 60ml of noni juice per day. One fruit should provide enough juice for two people, so don't hesitate to dilute it with water
Step 5. Flavor it with more fruit
Mulberry fruit juice has a strong, unpleasant flavor, but you can tone it down by turning it into a smoothie. For example, you can try blending 150g of carrots with a peeled orange, two tablespoons of coconut milk, 250ml of coconut water, 100g of pineapple, two tablespoons of grated coconut, some ice cubes and one teaspoon of filtered noni juice.
You can also enrich it with the juice of another fruit or honey. These ingredients don't completely hide the taste of noni, but they help you get used to it over time
Part 2 of 2: Consume Juice Safely
Step 1. Consult a doctor before drinking this juice
It is considered a herbal supplement and it is therefore best to seek advice from a doctor to make sure you can consume it safely. This drink is believed to have a ton of wonderful health benefits, but they have not been proven and may come with some side effects; stay in contact with the doctor in case you experience any negative reactions.
Step 2. Start with small doses
The initial one is about 30 ml; you just need a "shot" of juice per ration; as you get used to it you can increase the quantity or take a second ration during the day. In any case, do not exceed 750ml of juice per day.
If you have decided to take the extract in capsules, limit yourself to 500 mg per day; read the label to know the contents of each capsule
Step 3. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not take the juice
In the past it was used to induce abortion; although there is no conclusive evidence on this, it is best to be cautious. Exclude noni from your diet for this period.
Step 4. Stop using this drink if you have kidney or liver problems
All people suffering from hepatic or nephrological disorders should not consume noni, as the potassium and other components present in the juice could worsen certain pathologies; discuss with your doctor to find alternatives.
Common symptoms of these diseases are weight loss, fatigue and nausea; with liver problems, the skin may turn yellow, while individuals with kidney abnormalities often have swollen faces, hands and feet
Step 5. If you have high potassium levels, don't drink Indian mulberry fruit juice
Noni is very rich in this mineral, a hyperkalemia could alter heart rate and muscle function; if your blood potassium concentration changes or you start noticing problems, stop drinking the juice.
