This article describes how to catch Mew in Pokémon Red and Blue using some glitches to your advantage.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use the Risk and Bully Glitch
Step 1. Restart the game if you have already made too much progress in the game
This glitch requires you to take on a Risk and a Bully in a specific order.
You must get HM02 Flight from the house west of Celadon City
Step 2. Press the "Start" button precisely in front of the Risk Taker
You'll find it near the underground path from Lavender Town to Saffron City. If you manage to do this before the Risk Taker sees you, the game menu will appear.
Step 3. Fly to Heavenly City
The Danger will see you after using Flight, you will hear the music of the fight, but you will still reach Celestopoli.
Step 4. Join the Bully in the tall grass area just after the Pepita Bridge
This is the fourth coach after crossing the bridge. You will see it higher than a female trainer and it will be facing north. Don't go near him. Beating him should be super easy, as he only has a level 17 Slowpoke.
Step 5. Defeat the trainer and return to Lavender Town
Step 6. Walk to the left exit of the city
The pause menu should automatically appear.
Step 7. Exit the menu to start the battle
Be careful, because Mew will only be level 7!
Step 8. Catch Mew with the Master Ball, or weaken it using your Pokémon's attacks
When he's weak enough, try catching him with a Poké Ball.
Method 2 of 2: Use the Junior Trainer and Bully Glitch
Step 1. Restart the game if you have already made too much progress in the game
This glitch requires you to face the Junior Trainer (Allen Jr. in the game) hiding in the tall grass and the Bully (both in Heavenly City).
Step 2. Capture an Abra (if you don't have another Pokémon that knows Teleport)
You can find him on Routes 24 and 25 in Pokémon Red / Blue and on Route 5 (you may need a Pokémon that can put him to sleep).
Don't fight the junior trainer (seventh) hiding in the tall grass on the left side of Route 24 while trying to catch Abra. You will have to deal with it later
Step 3. Walk to the edge of the tall grass and stop
If you enter the grass, the coach will see you and the fight will begin.
Step 4. Save the game
This way you can try again if the method doesn't work the first time. You will be able to load your save and try again.
Step 5. Walk forward and press "Start" at the same time
Step 6. Select Abra and use Teleport
The trainer will see you, but you will still move to the Celestial City Pokémon Center.
Step 7. Reach the Bully (# 4) on Route 25
Make sure you don't start a fight before you get there, except the one with the Adventurer, which may be unavoidable. Leave a space between you and the Bully, so that he can get close to you.
Step 8. Defeat the Bully and his Slowpoke
Step 9. Return to Route 24
As soon as you reach the path, the game menu will automatically open.
Step 10. Close the menu to start the battle
Be careful, because Mew is only level 7!
Step 11. Capture Mew with the Master Ball, or weaken it using your Pokémon's attacks
When he's weak enough, try catching him with a Poké Ball.
Advice
- You can use Teleport or Fly.
- The only move Mew knows is Botta.
- If you make a mistake, just restart your device.
- You can save during the steps required to complete the glitch, without compromising the outcome of the procedure.
- The trick is to fly away from a trainer who "sees" you (wants to face you) from the edge of the screen. This means that when you walk towards him who is not yet on the screen, he will see you as soon as he appears in the game. The glitch is possible thanks to a delay in the reaction of the coach. In the moment it takes to realize you've seen you, you have the option to press Start and use the pause menu as you like. This gives you a way to fly away, starting the glitch.
- Remember, you can use the glitch to get Mew with other trainers as well, like the Brain west of the Danger. The only difference from the Rischiatutto is that you have to exit the same path it is in.
- Mew will be level 7. Make sure you have a weak Pokémon with which to reduce its HP without defeating it. Paralyzing or falling asleep are also useful strategies. Even at low levels, Mew is very difficult to catch.
Warnings
- It takes a lot of effort to complete this procedure if you are inexperienced.
- Since you only have Poké Balls available, be prepared to face Mew multiple times before being able to catch him. Try to catch a Caterpie and evolve it into Butterfree, which is capable of confusing enemies. Once confused, Mew will be easier to catch.
- Since this is a glitch (although it works well), in some cases the Mew you capture may have errors. In that case, restart the game.
