Mew is one of the most wanted Pokémon in all versions of the video game. Its rarity is due to the fact that it cannot be obtained by playing normally. At the time of the release of the individual versions of the video game, Mew was only obtainable through sponsored events by Nintendo. Unfortunately, these types of events have not been organized for years, so playing Pokémon Emerald, there is no longer a legitimate way to get hold of a Mew specimen. To do this, you need to resort to the help of physical peripherals, such as an Action Replay or a software emulator, which allow you to access the island in the game world where Mew lives and capture it.
Steps
Step 1. Start Pokémon Emerald with the Action Replay peripheral installed in the game console or use a software emulator
The only way to catch Mew while playing Pokémon Emerald is to resort to using cheat codes. Back in 2005, it was possible to get Mew thanks to special events organized by Nintendo itself. This was and remains the only legitimate way to get hold of it. Since these special events are no longer available these days, you have to cheat to be able to catch a specimen of Mew.
- The VisualBoy Advance is one of the most popular Game Boy Advance software emulators that supports the use of Action Replay codes.
- See this article for detailed instructions for inserting new codes into a physical Action Replay device.
- Note: If you haven't reached the city of Seaweed Harbor in the game yet, you will most likely not stick to the correct timeline when you reach the Supreme Isle. This could cause the game's algorithm to generate an error with the risk of getting stuck in this situation. Precisely for this reason it is better to wait and use the Action Replay code only after having already reached Seaweed Harbor following the original Pokémon Emerald plot.
Step 2. Prepare your Pokémon team
You will have to face a level 30 Mew, which will therefore have the ability to transform into any Pokémon on your team. If you have a "Master Ball", this is a great time to use it, although it is possible to catch Mew in the traditional way, ie by weakening it and using "Poké Balls".
- If you don't have a "Master Ball" or don't intend to use it, fill up on "Ultra Ball", then bring a Pokémon that knows the "False Sweep" move that can lower Mew's health points. The Mew specimen you encounter will only be level 30, so it shouldn't be very strong; however, remember that you don't want to risk accidentally knocking him out. It might also be useful to have a Pokémon in your team that can alter Mew's status with attacks that induce "Paralysis" or "Sleep".
- Since Mew is level 30, you will need to have the second "Fist Medal" to make him obey you once he is captured.
- Mew will be much more difficult to catch if you have a Legendary Pokémon on your team. For this adventure it is therefore best not to include any of your Legendary Pokémon in the team.
Step 3. Enter the "Cheats" menu, then choose the "Cheat list" item
You will need to enter the code that allows you to access the Supreme Isle in the Action Replay tab or in the software emulator.
Step 4. Press the button
Gameshark….
This will ask you to enter a new code.
Step 5. Enter the code to get a "Master Ball" (optional step)
If you'd like to catch Mew with a "Master Ball", but don't have one yet, you can use its cheat code to get as many as you want without any effort. Enter the code provided below, the next time you log into a "Pokémon Market", you will be able to get all the "Master Balls" you want, completely free.

Step 6. Enter the code to teleport to the Supreme Isle
Select the "Cheat list" option again, then create a new Gameshark code. The code below will lead you to the Supreme Isle, where you can catch Mew.

Since you are using a cheat code to get to the Supreme Isle and not to get a Mew specimen, the Mew should appear as usual after the anti-hack checks performed by the game software
Step 7. Cross the threshold of a door or move to another area
After entering the indicated code, to activate the automatic teleportation to the Supreme Isle, you will have to cross the threshold of a door or move to another point in the game world.
Step 8. Deactivate the cheat code to reach the Supreme Isle
After being teleported to the island, you need to deactivate the relevant access code otherwise you will be blocked with no possibility to move to another point on the map. Select the "Cheats list" option, then deselect the code for the Supreme Isle.
Step 9. Walk inside the forest on the island
Following the winding path through the forest, you should have access to another area of the island. The entrance to this second part is hidden by trees and is characterized by a strong shade of green. In this way you will be led into the deepest reaches of the forest. After you enter this new area, you should see a Mew specimen right in front of you.
- The entrance to this second area is located on the right of the first part of the forest, on the top of a hill.
- If crossing the entrance to the deepest recesses of the forest (where Mew lives) you are brought back to the starting point of the Supreme Isle (where you arrived immediately after the teleportation), it is because you have not yet disabled the relevant code. If you don't, the game will continue to automatically take you to the start of the Supreme Isle whenever you attempt to enter a new area of the game world.
Step 10. Locate and pursue Mew
The latter will continue to move away from you until you bring it out of the tall grass. To locate where Mew is, you need to look for the area where you see tall grass moving. You'll have to chase him until you can corner him and interact with him to start the fight.
Step 11. To catch Mew throw a "Master Ball"
If you have a "Master Ball", use it now to have a 100% chance of catching Mew immediately. Otherwise, if you don't have one, you have to proceed in the traditional way, which is to weaken Mew until you can try to catch it using a normal "Poké Ball".
Step 12. If you don't have a "Master Ball", start lowering Mew's health level
If you have normal "Poké Balls" available, before you can use them, you must weaken Mew until its energy bar turns red.
- The easiest way to do this without knocking him out is to use the "False Swipe" move. This special move decreases the opponent's health point level without ever letting him fall below the minimum value of 1.
- It alters the state of Mew bringing it into a state of "Sleep" or "Paralysis", a situation in which it is much easier to capture it.
Step 13. Leave the Supreme Isle
After reaching the mission objective, which is to capture Mew, you can leave the island. Return to the foot of the hill to be able to take the boat that will take you back to Porto Alghepoli.
