This article explains how to find slimes in Minecraft. These monsters inhabit the swamps and underground caves. By eliminating them, you can get Slime Balls, which are useful for building items like sticky plungers and slime blocks.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Finding Slimes in a Swamp
Step 1. Reach a swamp
These biomes are characterized by dark grass and trees, lianas hanging from the branches and numerous bodies of water. You will find them alone in ravines or as an extension of forests.
Step 2. Look for the flattest area you can find
Swamps are usually flatter than other biomes, but try to find the largest and flattest area possible.
Step 3. Activate the coordinates
On Mac and PC you can do this by pressing the F3 key; once done, you will see a series of white lines of text appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
In the PE and console versions of Minecraft, you must open the map to see the "Y" coordinate
Step 4. Make sure the Y coordinate of the region is between 50 and 70
When you are in a swamp, the slimes will spawn between level 50 and 70.
For reference, the sea level is 65
Step 5. Find a dark spot
The lighting level of the zone must be 7 or less. You can create an artificial dark area by covering part of the swamp with blocks of earth, or look for a naturally dark one.
You can check the lighting level by looking for the "rl" value in the penultimate line of coordinate text
Step 6. Make sure the zone has at least three vertical blocks of space
Slimes can only spawn in areas that are at least two and a half blocks high, so take out the leaves if necessary, but be careful as this can increase the lighting level.
Step 7. Move at least 24 blocks away from the area where you want the slimes to spawn
Slimes cannot spawn within 24 blocks of a player and disappear if they move more than 32 blocks away.
Step 8. Wait for the full moon
The spawn rate of slimes is highest during a full moon, so you can build a small hut with a bed nearby and wait for the full moon.
Slimes are not spawned if the moon is new
Step 9. Try to force the spawning of the slimes
By creating a few platforms with at least three blocks of vertical space between them, you can increase the number of surfaces on which slimes can appear.
If you follow this advice, make sure all platforms are between level 50 and 70
Method 2 of 2: Find the Slime Chunks
Step 1. Search the caves below level 40
If you can't spawn slimes in the swamp, you may have better luck underground. Slimes are spawned in caves called "slime chunks", areas of 16 x 16 x 16 blocks.
There is a 1 in 10 chance of finding a slime chunk
Step 2. Light up the cave
When you go below level 40, slimes spawn in all lighting conditions; by placing torches the excavation operations will become easier and you will prevent the appearance of other hostile monsters.
Step 3. Clear a space of 16 x 16 x 16
This way you can create a chunk. Slimes won't start appearing right away while you are present, but you may be able to force their spawn by adding platforms.
Step 4. Make four 1 block high platforms
You should stack them on top of each other, separated by three vertical blocks of space. The presence of the platforms increases the chances of the slimes appearing.
Step 5. Move at least 24 blocks away from the area
As with the swamp, slimes don't spawn unless you're at least 24 blocks away.
Step 6. Wait for the slimes to spawn
If none appear in 24 hours of play, you need to find another cave.
Advice
- Be careful when looking for a slime chunk, as you will encounter many hostile monsters underground.
- When looking for a slime chunk, create tunnels only two blocks high, which the slimes will not be able to enter. Consequently it will be easier to eliminate them.
- Make sure you keep the slime balls. You can use them for many constructions (sticky pistons, leashes, slime blocks and magma cream).
- Write / summon slime in chat to generate a slime where you are.
- In flat worlds you can easily find slimes even during the day.
- Slimes spawn very often in super-flat worlds, because the ground level is close to the lowest.
- Don't look for slimes when the moon is new, as they don't spawn in those conditions.
- Try using TNT on many medium-sized slimes.
Warnings
- Avoid mushroom forests, where slimes are not spawned.
- Remember that large and medium sized slimes can hurt you. The small ones, on the other hand, do not.
- To find the slimes you will have to proceed by trial and error.
