In Minecraft, gold is useful for making tools and armor. It is not as important as some of the other materials because it is the one that breaks down the fastest. Here's how to find it.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Finding the Raw Gold (PC or Console)
Step 1. Get an iron or diamond pickaxe
You cannot collect gold with other tools.
Step 2. Dig until you reach the right height
Always dig diagonally and never directly down to avoid falling. Leave a row of torches behind you if you go through caves.
You can also stand between two blocks and split each one alternately. You will still have to use something to get up later or use a ladder
Step 3. Check your coordinates
You can only find gold below height 31. You can check your current coordinates by pressing F3 in the computer version of the game, or by reading the map in the console version. The y coordinate is the information relating to the level you are at. Here are the best levels to look for gold:
- Level 28 is the highest level where you can find the maximum amount of gold.
- Levels 11-13 are the best places to look for gold and diamonds at the same time. Avoid digging below level 10, where lava becomes much more common.
Step 4. Dig branches to find gold
To begin with, create a horizontal main gallery. Then, dig branches from this tunnel, one block wide and two high, to look for gold. Gold ore usually occurs in groups of 4-8 blocks. This means that you will find almost all the gold present in your excavation area if you create the secondary tunnels three apart.
To make sure you find all the gold blocks (but by slowing down operations) space the secondary tunnels by two blocks
Step 5. Explore your surroundings
During your digging you may come across an abandoned fortress, dungeon or mine. These places can hold chests with gold or other valuables.
Part 2 of 3: Finding the Gold (Pocket Edition)
Step 1. Search for a mesa biome
These biomes resemble deserts with streaked red hills or plateaus. They contain the special features described below, only in the Pocket Edition of Minecraft.
Step 2. Dig at any level
Gold can appear at all heights in mesa biomes. Therefore these environments are the best for looking for gold in the Pocket Edition. Dig tunnels in the sides of hills, or walk on the surface looking at the ground.
Step 3. Search abandoned mines
In the mesa biomes you can find the only mines abandoned on the surface. In these areas you can see mining carts with chests, which have a 25% chance of holding gold. Watch out for spiders during your search.
Part 3 of 3: Using the Gold Ore
Step 1. Cast a gold bar
Just like you did for iron, you have to melt the raw gold in a furnace to get the gold bars to use. Do not waste the material for making tools or armor except for an aesthetic choice, because they are weaker than those of iron. Instead, use ingots to build the special items described below.
Step 2. Use the ingots to make a watch
Place a red stone in the center of the crafting grid, with a gold bar on each side (four in total). You will get a watch that will show you the position of the sun or moon.
Place an object frame (eight wooden sticks and a piece of leather) on one wall and insert the clock inside it to create a wall clock
Step 3. Build powered rails
Place a stick in the center of the crafting area, fill the left and right columns with gold bars (six in total), then put some red stone at the bottom. This powered rail makes mine carts move by themselves, if you energize them with a redstone torch or redstone circuit.
Step 4. Make gold pressure plates
If you want to start a redstone circuit when something falls or when you walk over a square, build a pressure plate by placing two ingots side by side in a workbench.
Step 5. Make golden apples
Place an apple in the center of the workbench and completely surround it with gold bars (nine in total). You will get a golden apple, an excellent protective and healing item that you can eat even when you are not hungry.
You can create an even more powerful version of the golden apple in almost any version of Minecraft by using gold blocks (see below) instead of ingots. This recipe is no longer available since Minecraft version 1.9
Step 6. Make gold blocks
Flaunt your wealth by filling the crafting table with gold bars to get a single block of gold. This yellow cube is mostly used for decorating.
Step 7. Break the gold into nuggets
You can turn a single ingot into nine nuggets. These items can be used in the following ways:
- Shimmer Melon: Surround a slice of melon with nuggets. It is used for potions.
- Golden Carrot: Surround a carrot with nuggets. It is used for potions, food, for breeding and treating horses.
- Star Firework: To create a firework, place any dye in the center of the crafting table and some gunpowder on the left. Adding a gold nugget directly under the dye will result in a star exploding firework.
