Clash of Clans is great, but what to do when upgrades start to get expensive? Waiting to get the resources you need can take days at advanced levels of the game. This is the time to introduce farming. The word "farming" indicates the practice of deliberately lowering one's level in order to attack weaker players and steal the resources they need. Go to step 1 to learn how to farm and get the improvements you want.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Preparing to Farm
Step 1. Understand the basics of farming
"Farming" is the term used to describe the attack of weaker cities to obtain their resources. It implies that you intentionally lose in order to drop to a lower level, giving you the opportunity to attack weaker opponents. Since Clash of Clans has several systems for trying to prevent farming, you have to manipulate a few things in your favor.
Farming is based on both trophies and your Town Hall level. You get penalties if you attack cities that are more than one level lower than your Town Hall, so you need to balance your level and your trophies. There will be more details on this later
Step 2. Configure your city
Before you start farming, you'll need to make sure your city is set up correctly both to protect your resources and to allow you to lose enough to drop to the level you want. There are many strategies to keep in mind when building your city.
- Protect your deposits. Since you want to farm for resources, you don't want your loot to fall into the hands of a lucky invader. Place your depots in the center of your city, surrounded by many walls and many defense buildings.
- Place the Town Hall outside the walls. It might seem like this is counterproductive, but it's the key point. This not only gives you more storage space within the walls, it allows other players to quickly decrease your trophies, which is essential for reaching the desired level.
- You scatter your resource buildings all over the base. Don't place them all close together.
- Place the high-level resource collectors inside the walls and leave the others outside. Keep checking the game every 6-8 hours and collect the resources from the collectors.
Step 3. Get the "Sweet Victory" achievement
This milestone is reached after winning a certain number of multiplayer battles, and provides you with enough gems to buy the third Builder's Hut. This is critical to keeping your city up to date.
Step 4. Earn 1100-1200 trophies
This is considered the ideal range for farming, as it allows you to gain significant amounts of resources without running into enemies that are too powerful.
Step 5. Don't rush to upgrade your Town Hall
Your Town Hall level indicates the amount of loot you can get from attacks on other cities. If you attack a Town Hall that is two levels lower than yours, you will only receive 50% of the loot, while if you attack a Town Hall that is three levels higher than yours, you will get double loot.
- Level up your defense, military and wall buildings as much as possible before upgrading the Town Hall.
- The best Town Hall level for farming is 5-7.
Part 2 of 4: Building your Army
Step 1. Build at least four barracks
Your army must be constantly strengthened, so that it passes as little time as possible between attacks. With four barracks, a large part of your army can be restored when your first attack ends.
Step 2. Build a good mix of units
There are many different opinions on which is the best configuration for your army to farm, but usually it is a combination of Goblins, Archers, Barbarians, Giants, and Wallbreakers.
- Giants are expensive, so aim to add a couple.
- For lower levels you should focus on heavy Barbarian armies.
- For higher levels you can aim to have the majority of the army made up of Goblins, although some strategies say aim to have more Archers.
- As you increase the level of your Town Hall, the number of places available within the army increases, allowing you to have a better variety of troops.
Step 3. Also consider using Minions
Minions train fast and don't cost much, so they're ideal for quickly bolstering your troops. They can be very useful if you are looking to farm as fast as possible, as you can replenish your troops quickly between battles.
Step 4. Take into account the cost of the troops
When deciding whether or not to attack a city, it is useful to know how much your army costs. Calculate the total cost of your army, and then find 1/3 of that value (this will help you know when it's time to retreat). You don't want your loot to be less than the value of the troops you are losing.
Part 3 of 4: Finding Goals
Step 1. Look for specific types of resources
You will be more successful in farming if you focus on a particular type of resource, rather than cities that have resources of all kinds. Having different types of resources in your city makes you a target for other players who are farming.
Pay attention to the improvements you need and focus on that resource
Step 2. Check the total resources
Ideally, the city you target should have around 100k of the resource you want, and it shouldn't require a large army to conquer it. You can also focus on cities that have more resources and are less defended.
Step 3. Look for inactive cities
These are the best targets you can find, as you can usually pull off some big roundups with minimal effort.
- If the city has a gray league shield, then it has been inactive for at least the current season.
- If the construction huts are "dormant", the player is probably neglecting the city.
- Look for loot with a round figure. This usually indicates that the deposits have not been emptied and are full, which means they will be easy prey.
Step 4. Check mines and collectors
Look in the tanks of the elixir collectors, in the small boxes near the gold mines and so on. The fuller they are, the higher the loot will be.
Try to attack collectors from the higher level. The low-level ones might look full, but the loot you can get from them is very meager
Step 5. Look at the Town Hall level
Always keep in mind the opponent's Town Hall level. You are penalized by 10% if you are attacking a Town Hall one level lower, and by 50% for Town Halls two levels below yours. If you think you can afford it, attack Town Halls of a higher level, as you can get additional rewards.
Part 4 of 4: Attacking the Cities
Step 1. Carry out raids on collectors
These are usually best for farming, as collectors are easier to loot than depots. Make sure you do these types of attacks only when you find a city with full collectors.
Step 2. Raid deposits
If you can't find cities with full collectors, you will need to attack the depots. Look for cities where the layout is not very optimized or where the depots are not well defended, so that you have enough time to destroy them and collect the loot.
Step 3. Distribute troops in small groups
Send your troops in groups of five or similar to minimize the effect of Mortars and Mage Towers, which can devastate large groups.
- Use the Giants as a diversion, as they can take a lot of damage.
- Avoid placing Wallbreakers if there is a mortar on the way.
Step 4. Focus on the loot first
Once the attack begins, you will need to focus on the loot first. Destroy the collectors or depots, depending on the attack. This usually brings the destruction level to 30%.
Step 5. Avoid using spells
Spells can help you turn the tide of battle, but they are very expensive. Try to avoid spells if possible or you may not receive any profit from the attack.
Step 6. Raise your destruction level to 50%
Use the Archers to destroy some unprotected buildings to increase your destruction level to around 50%. This will help you win some trophies so that you can keep your trophy level.
Step 7. Maintain your trophy level
Always try to stay between 1100 and 1200. If you start to go above 1200, you lose a few battles on purpose to go down again. If you climb too high, you will have a hard time finding suitable objectives for farming.
