Clash of Clans is a mobile video game that has become very popular, the aim of which is to build and develop your own village in order to attack that of other players. One of the main assets of Clash of Clans are the "gems", necessary for the construction and of some of the most important buildings in the game. You can also use them to speed up the production of resources, but you should avoid doing so and put them aside if you need them for important constructions. Obtaining additional gems requires work and patience, especially since the game's developers have designed them as a monetization tool, thus trying to direct the user to buy them directly from the game store. However, with a little planning and patience, you won't need to spend your precious savings to get more gems.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Remove Obstacles
Step 1. Locate unnecessary items in the game world
Inside the area where you are going to build your village, there are removable objects such as plants and rocks, which will be removed to allow you to free up the space needed to build new buildings. At the start of each new game, there are approximately 40 of these items scattered around the development area of your village.
The elimination of the rocks has a cost in gold (primary resource of the game), while the removal of the plants has a cost in elixir (another primary resource of the game)
Step 2. Start removing unnecessary items
Every time you eliminate a rock or a plant, you are rewarded with a number of gems between 0 and 6. This number is not random but predetermined and cyclically follows this pattern:
6, 0, 4, 5, 1, 3, 2, 0, 0, 5, 1, 0, 3, 4, 0, 0, 5, 0, 1, 0
Step 3. Leave enough space for the plants to grow back
Every eight hours the plants automatically reappear within the play area, so you can then resume the removal process in order to get more buds. However, if your village area is fully occupied by structures, the plants will no longer have room to grow. Furthermore, each plant must have at least one square of free space between it and any other object, which means that the 8 squares surrounding it must remain empty.
Unlike plants, rocks are permanently removed and do not reappear after being eliminated
Step 4. Achieve the goal of removing plants and rocks
Removing a certain number of items will earn you an additional number of gems. For example, after clearing 5 obstacles you will get 5 gems, after clearing 50 you will get 10 gems and after removing 500 you will get 20 gems.
Part 2 of 4: Complete the Game Objectives
Step 1. Check the list of available objectives
Clash of Clans integrates a reward system based on achieving certain objectives, such as developing buildings, winning battles and collecting gold. By completing these objectives you will be rewarded in several ways, including of course a specific amount of gems. The more complex and difficult to achieve, the more gems you earn.
- By accessing the "Objectives" screen you will be able to see the progress of the objectives currently available. During the game, set priorities to try to achieve various objectives in the shortest time possible.
- Each objective is divided into three levels that progressively increase the reward received.
- By completing all available objectives, you can earn up to 8,637 gems.
Step 2. Fight against other players
The most rewarding objectives are those that are achieved by facing other users who play Clash of Clans in battle. This way you can earn thousands of gems. Here are some of the most valuable goals:
- "Sweet Victory": This can be achieved by winning the trophies up for grabs in multiplayer battles. Winning 1,250 trophies will earn you 450 gems.
- "Indestructible": This objective can be achieved by successfully defending your village from the attacks of other players. By successfully defending against 1,000 enemy assaults you will earn 100 Gems.
- "A friend in need": this objective can be achieved by giving reinforcement troops to the Clan Castle (which can then be divided among the users belonging to your Clan). Donating 25,000 troops will earn you 250 Gems.
- "5-Star League": this objective can be achieved by progressing in the general classification of Clash of Clans divided, in fact, into leagues. Reaching the Crystal League will earn you 250 gems, which become 1,000 gems for the Master League and a whopping 2,000 for the Champions League.
- "Firefighter": this objective can be achieved by destroying the Hell Towers of other Clash of Clans players. By razing 5,000 towers you will earn 1,000 gems.
- "War Hero": This can be achieved by earning stars for your Clan by participating in Clan Wars. Scoring 1,000 stars will earn you 1,000 gems.
- "Spoils of War": This can be achieved by earning gold as a bonus in Clan Wars. By earning a bonus of 100,000,000 gold, you will receive an additional 1,000 gems.
Step 3. Complete the minor objectives
Within Clash of Clans there are a myriad of objectives that are not related to fighting with other players, but which still allow you to earn gems. These objectives are not as profitable as the previous ones, related to the battles, but they are achieved by developing your own village. You can complete these objectives by removing obstacles (rocks and plants), raising the Town Hall level, stealing gold, unlocking the development of special units, such as Archers and Dragons, and completing the single player part of the game (the Campaign Map of the Goblin).
Normally, you can earn up to 20 gems by completing these types of objectives
Step 4. Collect the rewards
Once you have completed an objective, you will have to press a button in the list of objectives to take the gems you have earned. You must manually collect the reward every time you complete an objective, otherwise you will not be able to use it.
There is no time limit to claim rewards, but not a good reason to wait to do so; check the list regularly to see if you can collect any new gems you've earned
Part 3 of 4: Spend Acquired Gems Wisely
Step 1. Don't spend the starting gems
When you start a new game of Clash of Clans, you are given 500 gems. During the initial tutorial, you will be forced to spend half of it, thus remaining with a total of 250 gems. Regardless of the circumstances you face, don't spend these gems on speeding up the construction of your village buildings and structures. At this juncture, simply wait for the construction to complete naturally, saving these gems for later operations.
- It is not possible to skip the tutorial and save the 250 gems; however they are spent on a Builder Hut, which is essential in the game, so they won't go to waste.
- The game's initial tutorial suggests spending your gems to speed up resource production, but it's a way to get you to spend money; ignore that advice and lean towards keeping them instead.
Step 2. Don't buy new resources using your gems
Clash of Clans allows you to purchase the main resources of the game using gems as a currency. Do not do it. While you may initially save some time, you will be able to earn these resources effortlessly in the normal course of the game.
Step 3. Do not speed up the construction or development of new buildings, armaments or defenses by using gems
You will be constantly reminded that you can speed up the development of your village and your army or defenses by using gems. This might make sense if you were a super-competitive player who wants to reach the top of the overall standings, but in most cases it would simply be a waste of resources. If you are momentarily stuck waiting for the construction or development of new structures or units to finish and have nothing to do, you may be tempted to speed things up by spending your gems; at this juncture the best thing to do will be to have fun with another game.
Step 4. Spend all your gems to build and develop Builder Huts
This is the most useful building in the whole game, as it allows you to create multiple units at the same time, thus allowing you to build other structures and units faster. You should focus on spending your gems to get all available Builder Huts. You can have a maximum of 5 Builder Huts in the game, so once you have all of them you can spend your gems differently.
Part 4 of 4: Using Google Play Credit (Android Systems Only)
Step 1. Download the Google Opinion Rewards application
If your device uses the Android operating system, you can install Google Opinion Rewards by downloading it from the Google Play Store. At regular intervals, the application will send you marketing surveys to complete, rewarding you with credit to spend in the Play Store. You will then be able to spend the acquired credit to buy the Clash of Clans gems. Most surveys take only a few seconds to complete, while still allowing you to earn a variable sum between € 0, 10 and € 0.75.
- Google Opinion Rewards is an app created by Google Consumer Surveys, therefore it is a reliable and safe program that you can install and use without any worries.
- Google Opinion Rewards is not available for iOS devices.
Step 2. Log into your Google account through the app
If you have not yet associated your device with your Google profile, you will be prompted to do so now. If you don't have a Google account, you can create one completely free of charge.
Step 3. Enable the location services of your Android device
If not, you will not be able to receive many of the available surveys as many of them are based on the locations you have visited recently.
- Access the Settings application of your device, then choose the "Location" item.
- Make sure the "Location" switch, located at the top of the screen, is on.
- By opening the Google Opinion Rewards application, if required, you allow it to access your geographic location.
Step 4. Complete all available surveys
When you first start the application, chances are there won't even be a survey to take part in, but don't worry, they will start appearing in a short time. By traveling a lot and visiting shops, you will be invited to participate in many more surveys. The answers given to the various questions will not affect the credits you will receive.
When a new survey becomes available, you will receive a notification directly on your device
Step 5. Continue answering Google surveys until you accumulate enough Play Credits to purchase Clash of Clans gems
This process may take some time, however, most likely, you will be able to rack up a good amount of Play Credits even before you realize you've achieved your goal. When you have earned enough credits to purchase new gems, log into the in-game store and purchase the package you can afford, based on your finances. Make sure that the remaining Google Play credit is selected as the payment method.
Advice
- Within Clash of Clans, it is possible to buy gems in exchange for real currency, but this is a practice that can be extremely expensive.
- Joining one of the three most established clans in the game can earn you a large number of gems. To get the gems up for grabs, you will have to be one of the ten best players belonging to one of the three best Clans in the overall ranking, this means that you will have to become one of the thirty best Clash of Clans players in the world.
