This article explains how to add calendars to Outlook. Outlook eliminated the calendar synchronization feature years ago. However, you can add shared calendars and use secret addresses in iCal format to embed a Google calendar. Additionally, iCloud for Windows allows you to configure Outlook to add an Apple Calendar to this program. Not all features available on the Outlook for Windows program are also available on the Outlook for Mac version.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Add a Shared Calendar on Windows
Step 1. Open Outlook
The application icon is blue and features a page with an "O" over an envelope.
Step 2. Click on the "Calendar" button
The icon looks like a calendar and is located at the bottom of the left sidebar panel.
Step 3. Click on the Home tab
It is located in the menu bar, top left, next to the "File" tab.
Step 4. Click the Open Calendar button
The icon looks like a calendar with a green "+" symbol. It is located at the top of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 5. Click From address book
It is the first option in the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Double click on the name of the calendar you want to add
All the names in the directory will be displayed in the "Select Name" window. If necessary, you can type a name in the search bar to shorten the list.
Step 7. Click Ok
This option is located in the lower right corner of the drop-down menu, titled "Select Name".
Method 2 of 4: Add a Shared Calendar on a Mac
Step 1. Open Outlook
The application icon is blue and features a page with an "O" over an envelope.
Step 2. Click on Calendar
This option is located in the sidebar on the right. The calendars saved in Outlook will be displayed.
Step 3. Click on File
It is the first option in the menu bar at the top of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Click Open
It is the second option in the "File" drop-down menu. A drop-down menu will open.
Step 5. Click on Other User Folder
It is the second option on the menu.
Step 6. Type in a user name
Type a name in the bar next to the "User" option. It's at the top of the drop-down menu.
Step 7. Click Ok
The user will then be searched and all relevant results will be displayed in a new window.
Step 8. Click on a user's name
All users that match the entered name will appear in the window.
Step 9. Click Select
Assuming that the user in question has given you permission to access their calendar, it will appear in the left sidebar under the section titled "Shared Calendars".
Method 3 of 4: Add a Google Calendar on Windows
Step 1. Visit https://calendar.google.com/ using a browser
You can use any browser you want on a PC or Mac. Log into your account if you haven't already.
Step 2. Click ⋮ next to a calendar
A drop-down menu will appear. Calendars are listed in the section titled "My Calendars" in the left sidebar.
Step 3. Click on Settings and Sharing
By clicking on the "⋮" button next to a calendar, you will find this option in the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Copy the secret address in iCal format
It is located at the bottom of the "Calendar Settings" menu, more specifically in the section entitled "Secret Address in iCal Format". Click on the link to select it. Then, to copy it, click on it with the right mouse button and select "Copy" or press the Ctrl + C keys.
This feature is not available on the Mac version of Outlook
Step 5. Open Outlook
The icon for this application, which is blue, depicts a page with an "O" above an envelope.
Step 6. Click on the calendar button
The icon looks like a calendar and is located at the bottom of the left sidebar panel.
Step 7. Click on File
This option is located in the menu bar at the top of the screen, top left.
Step 8. Click Account Settings
The icon depicts a human silhouette with a gear next to it. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 9. Click Account Settings
It is the first option in the drop-down menu of the same name. A pop-up window will open with all the options associated with the account setup.
Step 10. Click on the Internet Calendars tab
It is the fifth tab in the pop-up window titled "Account Settings".
Step 11. Click on New
This option is located on the left side, above the box in the pop-up window. The "New Internet Calendar Subscription" pop-up bar will appear.
Step 12. Paste the secret address in iCal format into the bar
Click on the bar titled "Enter the location of the internet calendar you want to add". Paste the address by pressing the Ctrl + V keys.
Step 13. Click Add
This will add the calendar and open a new pop-up window with the subscription options.
Step 14. Write the calendar name next to the "Folder Name" option
The calendar has a default name. Change it by calling it "Google Calendar" or by entering any other title you want to see in Outlook.
Step 15. Add a short description (optional)
If you want to add a short presentation of the calendar, you can do so in the box titled "Description".
Step 16. Click Ok
This option is located in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.
Step 17. Click Close
This option is located in the lower right corner of the "Account Settings" drop-down menu. The calendar will appear in the section titled "Other calendars" in the left sidebar.
Method 4 of 4: Add an iCloud Calendar on Windows
Step 1. Close Outlook
If you've already opened the program, be sure to close it.
Step 2. Install iCloud for Windows
If you haven't already, download and install iCloud for Windows. Do the following to download and install the program:
- Click here to open the download page in a browser;
- Click on the blue button with the inscription Download;
- Click on the "iCloudSetup.exe" file;
- Follow the installation wizard instructions.
Step 3. Open iCloud for Windows
The application icon looks like a blue cloud on a white background.
Outlook for Mac does not support Apple Calendar
Step 4. Log in to iCloud for Windows
Use the email address and password associated with your Apple ID to log in to iCloud for Windows.
Step 5. Select
"Mail, contacts, calendars and tasks".
It is the third option on iCloud for Windows. It is next to a blue envelope icon.
Step 6. Click Apply
This option is located in the lower right corner of the program.
Step 7. Enter the password associated with your Apple ID and click Ok
A window will appear prompting you to type in your username and password. Enter them in the bottom bar.
Step 8. Click Done
iCloud for Windows will have finished setting up Outlook so that you can import the iCloud calendar.
Step 9. Open Outlook
The application icon is blue and features a page with an "O" over an envelope.
Step 10. Enter the password associated with your Apple ID and click Ok
When you open Outlook for the first time, you will be asked to once again enter the password associated with your Apple ID. After that, your Apple email, contacts, calendar and tasks will be available in Outlook.
