Facebook Messenger can examine a device's address book to check if its phone contacts are using the instant messaging app: this will make it easy to find friends and family on Messenger. The application will automatically search among new contacts to see if they have registered their number on Messenger.
Steps
Step 1. Open the "People" tab on the Messenger application
You can synchronize your address book with Messenger to add phone contacts who use this application to your friends list. Synchronizing contacts also allows you to automatically update your friends list on Messenger every time a new person is added to the device's address book.
Contacts are added only if they have associated their phone number with a Messenger account
Step 2. Tap "Sync phone contacts" at the top of the screen
If you are using iOS, you will need to tap "Search for phone contacts" first. Messenger will scan your address book and look for people to add to your friends list.
If you're using an iOS device, tap "Open Settings" when prompted. Activate the "Contacts" slider, then tap "Back to Messenger". Tap "Sync phone contacts" again to perform the procedure
Step 3. Tap "View" to review the added contacts
Messenger will show all contacts who have a profile on Facebook. These people will be automatically added to your friends list, so you don't have to do anything else.
If no contacts are found, Messenger will continue to scan the address book in the future for new users who use the application
Step 4. Turn off contact synchronization to remove contacts added during the process
If you no longer want to synchronize your contacts with your device's address book, you can disable this feature. The automatically synced contacts will be deleted.
- Open the "Settings" (iOS) or "Profile" (Android) tab on Messenger.
- Select "People".
- Disable the "Synchronize phone contacts" button. Then confirm that you want to delete the synced contacts.
