It's easy to connect an Android device with your Google account and keep your calendars in sync across all your computers and devices. You can do this with the Calendar app installed on your device, or by using an app like Google Calendar. The events you create on one of the connected devices will automatically appear on all those connected to your account.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Add your Google Account
Step 1. Open the Settings app
You can find this app on the Home screen, app drawer or notification panel.
Step 2. Scroll down to the "Account" section
Here you will see all accounts linked to your Android device.
Step 3. Press "+ Add Account"
The list of available account types will appear.
If you have already connected your Google profile, click on your username in the account list. Make sure the "Calendar" box is checked so that Google calendars are synced
Step 4. Select "Google" from the list of available options
Select "Existing" if you want to log in with your Google profile, or press "New" to create one.
Step 5. Wait for the new account to sync
Once you've added your Google profile, it will take a minute or two to sync all the data to your Android device. You can make sure the calendar is synchronized by pressing on the new account in the list and checking the "Calendar" box.
Part 2 of 4: Managing Calendars
Step 1. Open the Calendar app on Android
This app is pre-installed on all Android devices. There may be a different Calendar app offered by the manufacturer on yours, such as "S Planner" on the Samsung Galaxy.
Step 2. Press the Menu button (⋮) and select "Settings"
You can find it in the upper right corner of the Calendar screen.
Step 3. Tap on the Google account you just added
You will find it along with the other Google profiles connected to your Android device.
Step 4. Check the boxes next to all calendars you want to sync
If you have multiple calendars associated with your Google profile, you can select which ones will appear in the Calendar app. If you uncheck a calendar, all the events it contains will be removed from the app.
Step 5. Create a new event
Press the Menu button (⋮) and select "New Event". The creation form will open. Fill it in with the details, then hit "Done" to create the event.
You can select which calendar to create the event for by pressing the drop-down menu at the top of the form. You can choose any of the connected calendars
Step 6. Temporarily hide calendars
If you prefer a calendar not to appear in the Calendar app, but still be synced, you can turn it off. Press the Menu button (⋮) and select "Calendars to view". You can uncheck this list to hide a calendar without canceling the sync.
Part 3 of 4: Using the Google Calendar App
Step 1. Install the Google Calendar app
Not all devices have this app pre-installed. Since it is developed by Google, it does not use the synchronization process like the Android Calendar. You can download it for free from the Play Store.
Step 2. Launch the Google Calendar app
The app has the name "Calendar", so it is not easy to distinguish it from the one pre-installed on your device. The Google program icon is blue, while the Android one is green.
Step 3. Open the Google Calendar menu to view the various calendars
You can open it by pressing the ☰ button or by swiping from the left side of the screen. You will see the calendars under the Google account they are associated with. If you are signed in to your Android device with multiple Google profiles, you will find them all in this menu.
Step 4. Turn calendars on and off by pressing the colored boxes
All calendars in the list have a colored box next to their name that indicates the color of the events linked to it. Pressing on a box hides the corresponding calendar from the main view.
You can change the color of a calendar's events by opening the menu, pressing "Settings", then the calendar to be changed. The first option allows you to change the color of the events
Step 5. Press the red "+" button to create a new event
You can find it in the lower right corner of the main Google Calendar screen. Press it to open the event creation form.
You can change the calendar for which to create the event by clicking on the name at the top of the form
Part 4 of 4: Troubleshooting
Step 1. Check your network connection
If your Android device isn't connected to the internet, it won't be able to sync with your Google calendar. Make sure you have a mobile data connection or are connected to Wi-Fi by opening your browser and trying to load a web page.
Step 2. Update the calendar app
If you are using an older version of the calendar, you may encounter synchronization problems. Open the Google Play Store, press ☰ to open the menu, then select "My apps". Press "Update All" to install all available updates.
Step 3. Check if there is enough free space on your Android device
The calendar app stops syncing if it runs out of space. To check how much memory is left, open the Settings menu, select Storage and read the "Available" value. If you have less than 100 MB free, try deleting apps you no longer use, images, or media.
Step 4. Make sure you don't add an event to a hidden calendar
If you do, it won't appear in the calendar app. When creating a new event, check which calendar you are adding it to.
Advice
- You can sync multiple Google calendars with your Android calendar.
- Syncing another calendar will not overwrite the appointments and reminders saved on the default Android application.
