Images and videos that are sent through Snapchat (commonly referred to as "snaps") have a time limit for viewing. When sending a photo, you can set this limit from 1 to 10 seconds. Videos can only be played in their entirety once, which means that the limit is defined by the length of the video itself. There is no way to set a time greater than 10 seconds, although by adding snaps to the "Story", you can review them multiple times within 24 hours.
Steps
Step 1. Record a video or take a photo
All snaps you send with this application are visible for up to 10 seconds. It is not possible to record videos or apply a display time for images that exceeds this limit. Videos have a timer equal to their duration, while that of photographs can be set from 1 to 10 seconds. The snaps that are added to the "Story" can be viewed multiple times within 24 hours, even if each individual view has a defined duration.
- You may come across sources that offer information for recording videos longer than 10 seconds using iOS devices. This is no longer possible and, even if it were, the snap would be truncated to the tenth second after sending.
- If you have received messages with timers longer than 10 seconds, they are actually multiple snaps opened in succession. The display limit is given by the sum of the length of all messages; it is not possible to send snaps with a timer that exceeds 10 seconds.
Step 2. Tap the timer icon located in the lower left corner (for images only)
After taking a photo, tap this button and set the view limit. Videos do not have a timer, they will only play once and then disappear.
Step 3. Establish the maximum time the snap can be seen
For images, you can choose a duration between 1 and 10 seconds. As already mentioned, keep in mind that it is not possible to exceed the maximum limit.
Step 4. Send the snap
When you've set your viewing limit (and made any changes you want), send the message to your friends or add it to your "Story". Remember that videos do not have a timer and will only play fully once.
