By deleting your Dropbox account you will lose access to all files stored within it. Make sure you have a backup copy of the most important items before doing this. You can only delete an account from the desktop version of the website.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Back Up Your Files
Step 1. Log in to the Dropbox website on your computer
By deleting your account, you will no longer be able to access the Dropbox website or mobile app. This means that you will lose any files that you don't have a copy of. Given the operation of the application, it is not possible to access documents in offline mode without using the app. For this reason, the best way to back up your data is via your computer.
Step 2. Select all the files you want to save
Hold down ⌘ Command / Ctrl and click on the items and folders you want to download.
Step 3. Click the "Download" button
This way, you will download all the selected files into a single ZIP archive that you can open at a later time. It will take some time to save large files.
Method 2 of 3: Using a Mobile Device
Step 1. Open the Dropbox website with your mobile device browser
It is not possible to delete the account using the application. You must necessarily visit the website.
Step 2. Click the "Desktop Version" link at the bottom of the page
Only from the desktop version of the site it is possible to delete an account. You will probably need to enlarge the page after switching to this version in order to be able to read the links.
Step 3. Cancel your Plus subscription if you have one
Before you can delete your Dropbox account, you must cancel any active Plus subscription. Visit https://www.dropbox.com/downgrade on your mobile device browser and press "I still want to cancel" to confirm the operation.
Step 4. Press your name in the upper right corner
Enlarge the page if you can't do it.
Step 5. Press "Settings" in the menu that appears
A new page will open.
Step 6. Press the "Account" tab
Enlarge the page again to make it easier to press the button.
Step 7. Scroll down and hit "Delete my Dropbox"
You will find this item among the latest, under "Connected Services". The account cancellation form will open.
Step 8. Enter the Dropbox password in the form
You must do this to verify that you are the owner of the account.
Step 9. Select a reason for cancellation
You must do this before proceeding, but your choice has no effect on the operation itself.
Step 10. Press "Delete my account"
Your profile will be closed and your files will no longer be synced with Dropbox servers. You will not be able to access them from your mobile device, because you will not be able to use either the application or the website. All files saved on your computer and synchronized with the Dropbox program or downloaded from the website will still be available.
Method 3 of 3: Using the Computer
Step 1. Log in to the Dropbox website
Visit dropbox.com and log in to the account you want to delete.
Step 2. Back up any files you want to keep before deleting the account
After closing your Dropbox profile, you will lose the ability to access files saved within the cloud that are not synced to your computer. If you've never installed the Dropbox program, be sure to save a copy of the data you want to keep:
- Select all files and folders to save. Hold down ⌘ Command / Ctrl and click on all the items you want to select.
- Click the "Download" button at the top of the list. You will download all the files and folders you have selected to your computer in a single ZIP archive.
- Open the ZIP archive to access the files. Double-click on it, then click "Extract" to copy its contents to your hard drive for editing.
Step 3. Cancel your Dropbox Plus subscription (if necessary)
If you have a Dropbox Plus account, you need to cancel the paid service before you can delete your profile.
Visit https://www.dropbox.com/downgrade and click "I still want to cancel" to opt out of your subscription
Step 4. Click your account name in the upper right corner of the screen; a small menu will appear
Step 5. Select "Settings"
The account settings page will open.
You can open this page directly at dropbox.com/account
Step 6. Click the "Account" tab
Here you can check the percentage of used space.
Step 7. Scroll down and click the "Delete my Dropbox" link
The account cancellation form will open.
Step 8. Enter your password
You must do this again as a safety measure before confirming the deletion of the profile.
Step 9. Select a reason for your request
It doesn't matter which answer you choose, but by providing a specific reason, the service may improve in the future.
Step 10. Click "Delete my account"
The profile will be closed and your files will no longer be synced with Dropbox. You will no longer be able to access them from the website or application, but they will still be located inside the Dropbox folder on your computer, if you have installed the program of the same name.
