This article shows you how to download a file using a torrent client and the Kickasstorrents website. First you will need to install a program that can manage file sharing via the BitTorrent protocol. Remember that downloading copyrighted material through torrents is always illegal.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Install BitTorrent
Step 1. Log in to the BitTorrent website
The BitTorrent client is available for both Windows and Mac computers.
Step 2. Click the Download BiTorrent button
It is visible in the center of the page.
Step 3. Click on the "Free Download" link
It appears at the top of the page describing the program's features.
Step 4. Wait for the BitTorrent installation file to download to your computer
Depending on your browser configuration, you may need to confirm the download or choose the folder in which to save the file.
Step 5. Double-click the installation file
It features a purple icon with white lines inside.
You may need to confirm your action by clicking on the button OK.
Step 6. Click the Next button twice
It is located in the lower right corner of the installation wizard window.
Step 7. Click on Accept
This will confirm that you have read and accepted the terms of the license agreement for the BitTorrent client.
Step 8. Choose if you want program shortcuts to be created
In most cases you will be asked if you want to create a direct link to the client on the computer desktop. Should other options appear, deselect the relative check button on the left of each.
Step 9. Click the Next button twice
If you are using a Windows computer, on the second screen that will appear after clicking on the first button Come on, you will have the option to disable the feature that allows the BitTorrent client to run automatically when the system starts.
Step 10. Click on the Decline item related to the installation of any program or add-on
The BitTorrent installation wizard will ask you if you want to install additional programs (e.g. antivirus software). While this type of program may seem useful and functional, click the option to decline the offer and prevent it from being downloaded and installed on your computer.
Step 11. Click the Finish button after the BitTorrent installation is complete
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The program will start automatically, so you can start downloading the torrents you want.
Part 2 of 2: Download Torrents
Step 1. Log in to the Kickasstorrents website
As of April 2019 the URL of the site is
- If you are asked to log in or register for an account in order to download torrent files, you are not viewing the original Kickasstorrents site.
- Since Kickasstorrents uses banners and advertisements that can be invasive, it is best if you install an adblocker.
Step 2. Click on the "Search query" bar
It is displayed in the center of the main page of the Kickasstorrents website.
Step 3. Type in the keywords you want to search for, then click on the magnifying glass icon
The latter is located on the right of the search bar.
For example, if you are looking for an electronic book, you will need to type in the corresponding title
Step 4. Find a safe and reliable torrent
When you want to download a torrent there are some aspects that you need to pay close attention to:
- Seed - the number shown in the "SEED" column, visible on the right side of the page, should be greater (or at the same limit) than that displayed in the "LEECH" column;
- File information - make sure that the file name, the category it belongs to and any other information displayed in the title are consistent with the content you are looking for;
- Quality (for video files only) - always try to download video files that have "720p" in the title (ideally "1080p"). Any reference to a lower resolution corresponds to a poor quality video file.
Step 5. Click on the torrent file you want to download
Before downloading, you need to pay attention to some details:
- Comments - the feedback left by users who have already downloaded the file in question will help you understand if it is a safe and reliable file;
- Assessment - look at the yellow thumb up icon and the red thumb down icon on the top right of the torrent page. If there is a very large number under the second icon (the red thumb pointing down), it means that the torrent is not working or is not safe for download.
Step 6. Click the Download Torrent link
It is placed at the top of the selected torrent page, exactly below the file name. This will start the download.
Downloading a torrent file should only take a few seconds
Step 7. Double-click the torrent file you just downloaded
It will automatically open within BitTorrent. After a few moments, the download of the content file linked to the torrent you have chosen will start.
Step 8. Wait for the required content to be completely downloaded to your computer
When the torrent file is opened within the BitTorrent client, the program will automatically connect to the computers of the users who are sharing the file (ie the "seeders") and will automatically download the data. Normally the initial download speed is low, but as more and more "seeders" are identified you will see it progressively increase until it reaches the maximum limit.
- When the file download is complete you will find it in the default "Downloads" folder, for example your computer desktop.
- If you want, you can search your computer by typing the file name in the Spotlight field (on Mac) or in the "Start" menu (on Windows), then click on the corresponding icon that will appear in the list of results.
Advice
- The BitTorrent community recommends that you always share all the content downloaded via torrents at least for the time necessary to perform the download, to give other users the possibility to download the same data from your computer. To share a torrent just leave the BitTorrent client running and don't move the file from its original location.
- If for some reason BitTorrent or the Kick Ass Torrent site doesn't work, you can try installing uTorrent another client based on the BitTorrent protocol. You can download the installation file from this link:
