Google Chrome is a very popular browser and contains a tool that users can activate to find specific words and phrases within web pages; this function is called "Find" and can be implemented in a couple of different ways.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the Mouse
Step 1. Go to the web page you wish to search within
Once Chrome is open, type the site URL in the address bar and hit Enter. Wait for the page to load completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 2. Click the menu icon
This is the symbol formed by three horizontal bars positioned in the upper right corner of the browser screen. If you are using a PC, the icon should be just below the "X" key which closes the program. When you slide the pointer over it, it should read: "Customize and control Google Chrome".
Step 3. Locate and click the "Find" function
When you click on it, the drop-down menu should disappear and a small text box should open under the address bar in its place. Within this small window there is a search bar, an up arrow, a down arrow and an "X".
Step 4. Type the word or phrase you want to find on the web page
If you have never used the "Find" function before, the text box is empty. If, on the other hand, you find something written there, delete it.
You can press the Enter key after entering the word, but it is not essential to activate the search; once typed, the program searches for it automatically
Step 5. Examine how many times the term appears in the text
After typing it, Chrome highlights it every time it has been used on the page; for example, the function reports "1 of 20" to the right of the search box, which means the word was found 20 times.
- You can click on the up or down arrow to scroll the page and find all repetitions.
- The background color highlighting the term you are viewing changes from yellow to orange when you press the arrows.
Step 6. Close the "Find" function by clicking the "X" key or pressing the Esc key
When you are done using this tool, you can use one of these two methods to close it. The colors that highlight the words disappear.
Method 2 of 2: Using the Keyboard
Step 1. Open the web page where you want to search
After opening Google Chrome, type the URL of the site of your interest in the address bar; wait for it to load completely before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2. Use the keyboard to activate the "Find" function
Depending on the type of computer you are using, PC or Mac, you need to press different keys:
- On a Windows computer press the combination Ctrl + F;
- If you are using a Mac, you need to press ⌘ Command + F at the same time.
Step 3. Locate the search bar that appears in the upper right corner of the screen
This box appears to protrude down from the address bar, cutting off the top right corner of the page.
Step 4. Type the word or phrase you want to search for
If you've never used this tool before, the bar should be empty; if you have already used it, delete the text that is left over from the last search.
There is no need to press Enter after entering the word, because Chrome automatically searches as you type it
Step 5. Scroll the page through the various repetitions of the term or phrase
Once typed, Chrome highlights the term every time it has been used on the page. For example, the function reports "1 of 20" to the right of the search box, which means the word was found 20 times.
- You can click on the up or down arrow to scroll the page and find all repetitions.
- The background color highlighting the term you are viewing changes from yellow to orange when you press the arrows.
Step 6. Close the "Find" function by clicking the "X" key or pressing the Esc key
When you are done using that tool, you can use either of these two methods to close it. The colors that highlight the words disappear.
