Ingrediants
Tartlet in a Cup
- 1 egg
- 30 g of brown sugar
- Half a teaspoon of vanillin
- 45 g of self-raising flour
- 15 g of butter or margarine
- 30 g of chocolate chips
Family Size Cake
- 170 g of margarine
- 150 g of sugar
- 90 g of self-raising flour
- 30 g of cocoa powder
- 45 ml of milk
- 3 medium eggs
- 5 g of baking soda
- 5 g of vanillin
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Cupcake Tart
Step 1. Get a mug type cup
This can be of any size, but be aware that a larger and deeper cup will give you a softer cake, while a smaller, shallower cup will give you a harder cake. Grab your favorite cup and start cooking!
Step 2. Break the egg and pour the contents into the cup
The interesting thing about this type of preparation is that you can cook the pie without almost having dishes to wash; for now, just throw the eggshell in the trash.
Step 3. Prepare the batter
Add 30 g of brown sugar or honey and half a teaspoon of vanillin. Finally, add the 45 g of flour.
If you don't have self-raising flour, you can use regular flour, but the texture of the cake will be more like that of a brownie
Step 4. Add some butter
Leave a stick of butter on the kitchen counter to soften and add 15g to the cup. Depending on your taste, you can use plain, salted butter or margarine.
Step 5. Add some chocolate chips to the other ingredients (optional)
By doing this, the pie will have a richer and more greedy flavor. If you prefer a vanilla dessert, add another teaspoon of vanillin.
Step 6. Mix all the ingredients
Use a spoon to mix the contents of the cup. Continue until the chocolate chips are well incorporated and all the other ingredients are completely blended. Don't worry if the top edge of the cup gets dirty, the cake will still rise in the microwave.
Step 7. Cook the pie in the cup
Put the mug in the microwave for 50 seconds on maximum power. After this time, check if the cake is ready by inserting a toothpick in the center; if it is clean when you take it out, the cake is ready; if you have any wet batter residue left, then put the cup back in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, until the pie is cooked through.
- Be careful not to overcook the cake, otherwise it will become very dry. You don't have to leave it in the microwave for more than 2 minutes!
- Don't worry about the toothpick leaving a hole in the cake, it won't eventually show when you frost the surface.
Step 8. Let the cake rest
Microwave ovens often do not distribute heat evenly as traditional ovens do. Leave the cake on the kitchen counter for 1-2 minutes to even out the temperature inside the cup.
Step 9. Enjoy your meal
Grab a spoon and enjoy your creation or glaze it and decorate it as you like. Buy mugs and give them to your friends with a fantastic cupcake inside!
Be careful when removing the cup from the microwave. Use a pot holder or cloth to lift it, as it will be too hot to grasp with your bare hands
Method 2 of 3: Family Size Cake
Step 1. Prepare the batter
In a large bowl, mix 170g of softened margarine or butter, 150g of sugar and 90g of flour. Mix everything with a spoon or a rubber spatula.
You can also use plain flour if you don't have self-raising flour, but the cake will have a brownie-like texture
Step 2. Add the rest of the ingredients
Pour 45 ml of milk, break 3 medium eggs, add 5 g of baking soda and the same amount of vanillin.
You can use whole, skim or semi-skimmed milk or plant-based milk
Step 3. Add some flavorings
If you want to make a chocolate cake, add 30 g of cocoa powder; if you love vanilla, instead, add another 5 g of vanillin.
Step 4. Stir the mixture
Use a fork or electric mixer to work the batter for 4-5 minutes, until smooth. If you have a planetary mixer, however, you can pour all the ingredients together and work them for 60 seconds.
Step 5. Transfer the batter to a microwave safe dish
This detail is very important! Never use a metal pan for microwave cooking.
A shallow dish allows you to get good results
Step 6. Bake the cake
Put it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes on maximum power. The cake will bubble and swell just like it would in a traditional oven. When it starts to solidify (while still being a little "wobbly"), then it's ready.
- Check the cooking by inserting a toothpick in the center of the cake, it should come out clean; if you notice any wet batter residue, then put the cake back in the microwave for 1 minute at a time, until cooked.
- Be careful not to overcook it, or it will become dry.
Step 7. Enjoy your meal
Serve the cake still warm; this dessert is very moist, irresistible and you didn't even have to preheat the oven to cook it! Finish the preparation with icing or with the decoration of your choice.
Method 3 of 3: Glaze and Decorate the Cake
Step 1. Choose your favorite icing
You can use a ready-made or prepare it yourself. Try a chocolate, vanilla, lemon or any other flavor that intrigues you. Experiment with cooking a truly unique cake.
- Make sure it is completely cold before you line it with ice, otherwise the ice will melt.
- Make sure you have enough frosting. It's better to end up with some leftover icing than to run out of it before you're done decorating.
Step 2. Icing the cake
Check that the icing is at room temperature and spread it over the cake with a long rubber spatula or spoon.
Step 3. Decorate the cake with fresh fruit
Finely slice fresh strawberries and arrange them creatively on top of the glaze, according to your taste. Finally, brush the surface with seedless jam.
- You can also use fresh mango, banana, or whatever fruit you prefer.
- If you have decided to use fresh fruit, remember to add it only at the last moment. Moisture from the fruit will cause the icing to melt or stir slightly.
Step 4. Add some sugar sprinkles
They are a very fun and colorful decoration. You can also incorporate them into the batter before cooking.
Step 5. Cover the cake with some treats
Add a handful of small marshmallows to the surface of the cake to make it really sweet and fun. Finally sprinkle everything with powdered sugar.
You can also lightly heat the marshmallows in a non-stick pan, but be careful not to burn them
Step 6. Add more chocolate
If you want the cake to be crunchy too, break your favorite chocolate bar into small pieces and spread it over the cake. You can also use chocolate chips.
Step 7. Cover the cake with coconut flakes
You can add coconut to the batter before cooking or use it as a garnish. This is a healthier version than sprinkles or other desserts, but the cake will still look great. Spread a light layer of frosting on the surface and then press some coconut flakes on the cake.
Coconut has such a neutral taste that you can add it to just about any cake, from the more delicate ones with vanilla and lemon to the fuller ones with chocolate or carrots
Step 8. Try the nuts
You can sprinkle the cake with nuts only on the top or even on the edges after frosting.
If you're making a chocolate cake, sweet pecans are a perfect match
Step 9. Have fun and be creative
There are endless possibilities for decorating and frosting a cake and practically no idea is bad. Make changes to the suggestions in this article or try something new.
Advice
- Microwave cooking does not allow the cake to brown on the surface as it does with a traditional oven. If you make a vanilla cake, it will be quite pale in color. You can add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa or freshly brewed coffee to enrich the flavor of the dessert and at the same time make it darker.
- To finish preparing a microwave-baked cake, let it rest for a minute or two; in this way the heat is evenly distributed throughout the cake.
- All preparation, cooking and final cleaning takes about 20 minutes. This means that you will have plenty of time to enjoy the delicious dessert you have cooked!
