When your HTC phone no longer turns on properly, there are a few methods that can help you fix the problem. By long pressing the power key at the same time as the volume up key, you can reset the device. In case the proximity sensor does not work, you can try to illuminate it with a bright light. On the other hand, if your device is completely locked, you will need to send it to an HTC service center for repair.
Steps
Step 1. Try to upload it
The phone may not have enough charge to turn on. Plug it in for 5-10 minutes before proceeding.
Step 2. After charging, press and hold the power button along with the volume up button for about a minute
The phone may respond in quite a long time so keep the keys pressed. After a while it should vibrate and you will see the screen light up. Read on if this method doesn't work.
- While making this attempt, leave it plugged in to power.
- From the moment you feel your device vibrate, the reboot process may take several minutes.
Step 3. Try resetting the proximity sensor
Many of the newer HTC devices have this feature on the top, which can detect when the phone is close to your face or in your pocket. It can happen that the sensor stops working properly and needs to be illuminated by a bright light to reactivate.
- Hold the phone next to a strong light source, such as a lamp.
- While it is illuminated, press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button together. This may take more than 30 seconds.
Step 4. Check with a Windows computer if your device is really bad
There is a known issue with some HTC phones where they spontaneously stop working and need to be replaced. There is a quick way to understand if yours also has this problem: connect it to a Windows computer and check what is indicated in the Device Manager application.
- After connecting the phone, press ⊞ Win + R and type devmgmt.msc. This command allows you to load the Device Manager utility.
- Check the "Other devices" section and if "QHSUSB_DLOAD" appears in the list, it means your HTC is locked and you need to send it to a service center for repair or replacement.
