This wikiHow teaches you how to disable Facebook mobile app chat on an iPhone or iPad, so you don't have to share your activity status with other users.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Disable Facebook Chat
Step 1. Open the Facebook application on your iPhone or iPad
The icon looks like a white "F" in a blue square. It is located on the main screen or in one of the folders.
Step 2. Tap the icon that looks like three horizontal lines
This button is located at the bottom right and allows you to open a navigation menu on a new page.
Step 3. Scroll down and tap Settings
This item is located almost at the bottom of the menu. The options will appear from the bottom of the screen.
Step 4. Tap Account Settings in the pop-up menu
This will open the "Settings" menu in a new page.
On some versions of the Facebook mobile application, the "Chat Settings" option appears in the pop-up menu. If so, select this item
Step 5. Scroll down and tap Chat Settings in the menu
This option is located next to a gray speech bubble icon.
Step 6. Swipe the Chat button to deactivate it
By deactivating the button, your activity status will no longer be shown to other users on Messenger.
Method 2 of 2: Disable Chat on Messenger
Step 1. Open the Messenger application on your iPhone or iPad
The icon looks like a blue speech bubble containing a white lightning bolt.
If you've already opened Facebook, tap the Messenger icon at the top right of the News Feed. This will automatically switch you to the Messenger application
Step 2. Tap the People icon at the bottom of the screen
The icon looks like a list and is located at the bottom left. Allows you to open the list of your friends.
Step 3. Tap the Active tab at the top of the screen
It is located under the search bar. This tab contains the list of all friends who are online at any given time.
Step 4. Swipe the green button next to your name to disable it
Your name will appear at the top of the "Active" tab. By deactivating the button, your activity status will cease to be displayed. You will then appear disconnected to all your friends on Messenger.
