This article explains how to delete or mute a group conversation on Android. Deleting a group conversation is the only way to leave it. However, the thread will reappear in the inbox if you receive a new message in the same group.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Delete a Message Received in a Group Conversation
Step 1. Open the "Messages" application on your Android device
Search and tap the icon
in the app menu to open messages.
Step 2. Tap the group you want to leave
Find the group conversation thread you want to delete in the recent message list and open it.
Step 3. Tap the ⋮ button
It is located at the top right of the conversation. A drop-down menu will open.
Step 4. Tap Delete in the menu
This option allows you to delete the selected group conversation and remove it from the "Messages" application.
Tap "Ok" to confirm and cancel the conversation if asked
Method 2 of 2: Muting a Group Conversation
Step 1. Open the "Messages" application on Android
Search and tap the icon
in the application menu to open messages.
Step 2. Tap the group you want to leave
Find the conversation thread you want to delete in the recent message list and open it.
Step 3. Tap the ⋮ button at the top right
A drop-down menu will open.
Step 4. Tap People & Options in the menu
The settings associated with the selected conversation will open.
Step 5. Swipe the Notifications button to deactivate it
This will disable all notifications from the selected thread.
You will no longer receive push, LED or sound notifications from this group
Advice
- While deleting the group, you will continue to receive messages and notifications should a user intervene again.
- Disable notifications if you prefer not to receive any from this group and wait for all users to stop posting before deleting the thread.
