Forgot your password or swipe pattern to log into your HTC smartphone? Android can bypass the lock screen, if you know the right Google password. If this method also fails, you will probably need to reset your phone to factory condition. In both cases, you will have access to your smartphone again within a few minutes.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Sign in with your Google Account
Step 1. Test your PIN or swipe pattern five times
In order to bypass the lockscreen you must first run out of available attempts; at that point the phone will lock again and you will be given the option to log in with an alternative method.
Step 2. Click on "Forgot Password" or "Forgot Pattern"
This button will bring up the Google login screen, giving you the option to use the credentials of your account associated with the phone to unlock it.
If you are a US resident and a Verizon user, be aware that this method will not work. You will have 10 attempts, after which your phone will be reset. You can't unblock it using your Google account
Step 3. Enter your Google account information
Enter your username and password. You must use the same account with which you set up the phone initially. If you don't even remember this password, you can try to recover it by trying to log in from a computer.
Make sure you are connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network. In order to access the phone using this method, the device must be connected to the internet. If airplane mode is activated, press and hold the power button until the menu appears; click on the airplane logo to deactivate the mode
Step 4. Set a new password
Once logged in, set a new password, so you can resume accessing the phone normally. You can do this by clicking on "Settings", selecting "Security" and then choosing the mode you prefer: "PIN", "Pattern" or "Password".
Method 2 of 2: Reset the Phone
Step 1. Turn off your phone
To access the "Recovery" menu, you have to start with the phone turned off. Press and hold the power button until the menu appears, then click on the phone shutdown icon. By resetting your smartphone you will lose all data saved on it, so use this procedure only if you have no alternative.
If the phone is not responding, you can turn it off by removing the battery
Step 2. Open the "Recovery" menu
Press the volume down key and press the power button at the same time. Press and hold both buttons for about 30 seconds. When the Android logo appears, you can leave the buttons.
Step 3. Reset to factory settings
Use the volume down key to navigate the menu. Select "Factory Reset", then press the Power button to continue. The factory reset will take several minutes.
When you select factory reset, all your data will be erased
Step 4. Log in and reconfigure your phone
Once the reset is complete, you will be asked to set up your phone as if it were new. If you use the same Google account that you used before and if you had cloud backup enabled, your settings will be reset.
- You will be able to re-download all the applications you had purchased from the Play Store, as long as you use the same account with which they were purchased.
- Contacts saved in Google Contacts will be synced automatically.
