Method 1 of 4: Firefox for Windows
Step 1. Visit the Mozilla website
The link to download the program, which you find in the green box, automatically detects the operating system installed on your computer and the language.
If you want to download Firefox in another language, or for different operating systems, press the Systems and Languages link just below the green button to download the program
Step 2. Press the download button
The download will begin immediately. After you have finished downloading the file, click on it to begin the installation. Windows may ask for confirmation before running the installer.
Step 3. Choose the type of installation
The automatic installation is the standard one, which is suitable for most users. Install all the components you need to start using Firefox right away. If you choose custom installation, you will be presented with the following options:
- Choose the folder in which to install the program. Firefox will automatically choose the one it deems best. You can change it if you want.
- Install the maintenance service. This service automatically updates Firefox in the background. If you want to install updates manually, please disable this service.
- Choose where you want to place the icons. The proposed options are the Desktop, the Start menu, and the Quick Launch bar.
- Choose if you want Firefox to be the default browser. This means that when you click on a link on a web page, it will open with Firefox.
Step 4. Start Firefox
After a few moments, Firefox will be installed, and you can start browsing. You can choose to start the program immediately, or to start it later.
Step 5. Import the settings
If you used another browser before Firefox, you will be prompted to import settings, bookmarks, history and passwords from your old browser. This operation may take a few moments.
Method 2 of 4: Firefox for Mac
Step 1. Download Firefox
You can find it for free on the Mozilla website. The link to download the program, in the green box, automatically detects the operating system installed on your computer and the language. If you want to download Firefox in another language, or for different operating systems, click the Systems and Languages link just below the green download button.
Step 2. Open the DMG file
Once the download is complete, the DMG file should open automatically. If not, click on the file you downloaded, which you find on your desktop.
Step 3. Install the program
Drag the Firefox.app file into the Applications folder. Hold down the control key and click on the window. Select Eject "Firefox".
Step 4. Dock Firefox
To add Firefox to the dock, to quickly launch it, drag the icon from the Applications folder to the dock.
Step 5. Start Firefox
A warning will appear asking for permission to run a program downloaded from the internet. Confirm that you want to open it anyway. Firefox will ask you if you want to set it as your default browser. Immediately after recording your response, the browser starts.
Method 3 of 4: Install the Add-ons
Step 1. Understand what add-ons are
Add-ons are programs that you can add to Firefox to give it more functionality. You can choose free add-ons to install from a catalog available directly from Firefox.
Step 2. Open the Add-ons Manager
Open the Tools menu in the upper left of the window. Click Add-ons, the icon represented by a puzzle piece. This will open the Add-ons Manager.
Step 3. Search for add-ons to install
The Add-on Manager shows some categories of add-ons. You can search by specific extensions in the upper right of the window. If you want to see the content of the entire catalog of add-ons, you can view it through a link that you find at the bottom right.
Step 4. Install the add-on
When you've found the add-on you were looking for, click the green “Add to Firefox” button. Firefox will ask you to confirm, and the add-on will be installed. In many cases you will need to restart Firefox in order to launch a newly installed add-on.
Method 4 of 4: Firefox for Android
Step 1. Download Firefox
You can find the Firefox app from the Google Play store or the Mozilla site.
Step 2. Install the app
Press the button to install the Firefox application. The installer will ask you to grant permissions. These permissions cover things like letting Firefox access your GPS location, or writing files to your SD card. Please check and accept the permissions to continue.
Step 3. Open the App
Once the installation is complete, you can open the app. Check the "Allow automatic updates" box. This will ensure that your Firefox app always has the latest security updates installed.
