Everyone has been wearing shoes that are too small or too big. This is not fun, and you risk potential injuries. It is essential to know the exact number of your shoes when you go to buy them. Knowing your shoe size before entering the store saves time, avoiding wrong purchases and consequent changes. Follow the steps below to find out your shoe size!
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Measure the Foot at Home
Step 1. Put a sheet of paper on the floor
You will mark the profile of the foot on it. Avoid doing this on a carpet or any other surface where it can be difficult to write.
Step 2. Place your foot firmly on the sheet of paper
The leg should be slightly bent and the shin in front of the ankle. Keep your foot perpendicular to the card. You can stand, sit in a chair or squat.
Step 3. Draw the outline of the foot
You can put on the socks you will wear with new shoes, but don't put your shoes on.
Step 4. Mark the length and width of the foot on the paper
Use the marker to draw a straight line on each side of the outline.
Step 5. Measure your foot length
Use a tape measure or ruler to measure from top to bottom. Write down this number. It will be decisive for calculating the shoe size.
Step 6. Measure your foot width
Measure between the lines on the right and left side, then write down the number. Many shoes come in different widths, so this number will determine which version to buy.
Step 7. Subtract 5mm from each number
It is used to eliminate the space left between the line made by the pencil and the actual foot.
Step 8. Use the measurements taken to compare them with a reference scale
Women and men have different sizes and the measurements vary from country to country.
Part 2 of 2: Interpreting the Results
Step 1. Find your size on the following size chart for women
- 33 = 20.8cm long
- 34 = 21.3 cm
- 34.5 = 21.6 cm
- 35 = 22.2 cm
- 35.5 = 22.5 cm
- 36 = 23 cm
- 36.5 = 23.5 cm
- 37 = 23.8 cm
- 37.5 = 24.1 cm
- 38 = 24.6 cm
- 39 = 25.1 cm
- 40 = 25.4 cm
- 41 = 25.9 cm
- 41.5 = 26.2 cm
- 42 = 26.7 cm
- 42.5 = 27.1 cm
- 43 = 27.6 cm
Step 2. Find your size on the following men's size chart
- 37 = 23.8 cm
- 37.5 = 24.1 cm
- 38 = 24.4 cm
- 38.5 = 24.8 cm
- 39 = 25.4 cm
- 39.5 = 25.7 cm
- 40 = 26 cm
- 40.5 = 26.7 cm
- 41 = 27 cm
- 41.5 = 27.3 cm
- 42 = 27.9 cm
- 42.5 = 28.3 cm
- 43 = 28.6 cm
- 44 = 29.4 cm
- 45 = 30.2 cm
- 46 = 31 cm
- 47 = 31.8 cm
Step 3. Also consider the width
Many shoes also have different versions based on the width. According to this parameter, shoe size is usually indicated by the letters AA, A, B, C, D, E, EE, and EEEE, where AA is the narrowest and EEEE is the widest. Size B is usually the average for women, while size D is the average for men.
Step 4. Consult with the retailer or shoe manufacturer if your measurements are out of range
Advice
- Always try on shoes before buying them if possible.
- Each brand of shoe has a slightly different fit, so you will also have to choose a number more or less than the theoretical one to find the right size.
