Turmeric is a yellow-colored spice usually used to make curry, but it also helps exfoliate the skin and prevent acne. However, the use of natural pigments can stain the skin, making it yellowish. If you accidentally stain your skin or nails during turmeric treatment, you can remove the pigment with commonly used products.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using the Oil
Step 1. Heat vegetable oil, such as coconut oil, in the microwave for 15 seconds
Pour 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of vegetable oil (e.g. coconut oil) into a microwave-safe bowl. Place the pan in the oven and heat the oil for 15 seconds at maximum power. Make sure it's hot, but not hot.
- Use only 1 tablespoon (15 ml) if the stain is small.
- Turmeric pigment dissolves better in oil than water, so removing the stain will be easier.
Step 2. Massage the oil into the skin for 30 seconds
Gently massage the skin of the affected area in a circular motion. Allow the oil to absorb into the skin to dissolve and remove the pigment responsible for the stain. After massaging the skin for about 30 seconds, let the oil rest for 1 minute, so that it can penetrate deeply and remove the stain.
Step 3. Dry the skin with a cotton pad
Use a disposable cotton pad to pat the skin and remove the oil. Rotate the disk every time you tap it to better absorb the product. Continue to pat the skin until it is dry and the oil is completely removed. The pigment residue it has taken should remain on the cotton pad.
Advise:
if you can't use a cotton pad, opt for a dark towel to hide any stains.
Step 4. Wash the affected area with warm soapy water
Mix a shower gel or hand soap with warm water and apply the mixture to the affected area. Massage it using circular movements to remove the last residues of pigment. Rinse the skin and pat it dry with a towel.
If your skin still has spots, repeat the process
Method 2 of 3: Make a Sugar-Based Scrub
Step 1. Mix equal parts of sugar and water in a bowl until it forms a paste
Mix equal parts of sugar and warm water in a bowl. You should get a thick paste that is easy to spread on the skin with the help of your hands.
To make the scrub, you can use white granulated sugar or organic brown sugar
Step 2. Massage the skin with the paste using circular motions
Gently apply the sugar scrub to the skin and massage the stained area using small circular motions. The sugar will dissolve the spots and exfoliate the skin at the same time.
Do not scrub too much, otherwise you risk causing skin irritation
Step 3. Rinse the skin with warm soapy water
Mix hand soap and water until a little lather is created. Thoroughly rinse the paste from your skin to permanently get rid of turmeric stains. Once the skin is clean, pat it dry with a soft towel.
If there are any spots left on your skin, prepare more scrubs and clean the affected area again
Method 3 of 3: Mix Lemon Juice and Sodium Bicarbonate
Step 1. Mix equal parts of baking soda and lemon juice
Pour the baking soda and juice into a bowl, then mix them with a spoon. Keep stirring until it forms a paste that is easy to spread with your hands. If it is too thick, add more lemon juice. If it's too liquid, add more baking soda.
Baking soda and lemon juice also help brighten and exfoliate the skin
Advise:
if you don't have lemon juice, you can replace it with white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
Step 2. Apply the baking soda paste to the stains for 2-3 minutes
Spread a thin layer of the compound on the area affected by the stain. Let it sit and dry for 2-3 minutes to dissolve and remove the stain.
Avoid applying the mixture around the eyes, as it could damage your eyesight
Step 3. Rinse the paste
Once the mixture has thickened, let lukewarm water run over your skin to rinse it off. If there is any remaining paste sticking to the skin, rub it with a paper towel or dark tissue to remove it. The baking soda should have removed the stain and brightened the skin!
Eliminate the paste well, as lemon juice can cause high photosensitivity
Advice
- Use organic aromatic turmeric if you want to avoid staining your skin.
- Instead of making the paste by mixing turmeric with water, try replacing it with honey or milk. When the mixture is thicker it causes fewer stains.
