Draining ground beef from fat allows you to prepare healthier dishes, and some recipes recommend this. If you want to make the meat leaner, you need to brown it first to release the fat. After browning, you can remove the fat from the bottom of the pan with a spoon or drain the meat using a colander. Boiling grease can clog sink plumbing, so it's important to dispose of it properly.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Remove the Fat from the Pan
Step 1. Cook the ground beef over medium-low heat for 10 minutes
Break it into a large non-stick pan and place it on the stove. Let it cook over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring periodically.
- The meat must be well browned.
- You can season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and other spices to make it more flavorful.
Step 2. Push the ground beef to one side of the pan
Move it to one side using a fork or spoon, then tilt the pan to allow the fat to accumulate on the opposite side.
Be careful not to tilt it too much so as not to spill the fat on the stove
Step 3. Transfer the fat to a container using a large metal spoon
For convenience, it is best to use an empty aluminum can that is meant to be thrown away. Alternatively, you can line a tureen or cup with aluminum foil and spoon the fat into it.
Covering the container with aluminum foil will allow you to clean it more easily, but it is not strictly necessary
Step 4. Vacuum the fat with a roasting blower instead of using a spoon
Press and hold the bulb of the silicone syringe and dip the tip into the liquid grease. Release the grip to suck the grease into the pump.
Make sure that the hot grease does not reach the silicone part of the blower, as it could melt
Step 5. Absorb the grease with kitchen paper to make cleaning easier
Take 2-3 sheets of absorbent paper and blot the grease. Keep doing this until you have absorbed all the fat in the pan. Be careful not to touch the pan so you don't get burned.
Let the grease cool on the paper for a couple of minutes, then throw it in the waste bin
Step 6. Freeze the fat if you have transferred it to a container
After placing it in a tin or foil-lined container, let it cool for 10-20 minutes. Once cool, return the bowl to the freezer. The fat should solidify within a couple of hours. You can then transfer it to the organic waste container using a spoon.
Frozen meat fat can be used for cooking as a substitute for butter or lard
Method 2 of 2: Drain the Fat from the Meat Using a Strainer
Step 1. Brown the ground beef in a pan for 10 minutes
Break it into a pan and place it on the stove over medium-low heat. Stir the meat until it is well browned. After about ten minutes, it should be ready.
Step 2. Pour the ground beef into a colander placed over a glass bowl
Place a colander over a glass or ceramic bowl and pour the ground beef and fat released during cooking into it. The boiling fat will drain into the bowl, while the meat will remain in the colander.
Do not use a plastic bowl as it may melt
Step 3. Pour boiling water over the meat in the colander
Fill a cup with boiling tap water and pour it over the meat. The boiling water will wash away the residual fat.
You can repeat this step several times to remove as much fat from the meat as possible
Step 4. Let the fat cool for 10-20 minutes, then put it in the refrigerator
Leave the bowl at room temperature for 10-20 minutes, then refrigerate it for 1-2 hours. The fat will solidify and create a solid layer on the water.
Do not remove the fat from the refrigerator until it has solidified
Step 5. Remove the layer of solid fat that has formed on the surface of the water and throw it away
Pick it up with a spoon and throw it in the organic waste bin. After you have removed all the grease, you can pour the water down the sink drain.
