Many are afraid to cook using glass dishes because they could break. However, while this is a possibility, it is highly unlikely to happen, especially following the manufacturer's instructions. You should also avoid scratching or cracking the glass. Make sure you handle these containers correctly when using them for cooking, washing and storing them.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Cooking
Step 1. Read the instructions before use
It is important to carefully read all the instructions and warnings before moving on to using the containers. Such indications should clearly explain how they are used. Follow them to avoid breaking them due to misuse.
Step 2. You can only put these containers in the classic or microwave oven
The glass ovenproof dishes are specifically designed for this type of cooking. Incorrect use could cause them to break, which could cause a mess and also hurt you.
Do not use them to cook food on the grill, on the stove, in the electric oven and on the barbecue
Step 3. Preheat the oven before putting the pan in it
In this way the cooking times will be more precise.
Do not exceed the temperatures indicated by the manufacturer
Step 4. Avoid subjecting the dishes to a thermal shock, which occurs when they undergo a sudden and substantial change in temperature, which could cause them to crack or chip
Here are some things to keep in mind when using them.
- Do not pour cold liquids into a hot container.
- Do not put hot containers in the dishwasher.
- Do not place them directly on the countertops, instead place them on an oven mitt, pot holder or towel.
- Do not move the container directly from the freezer to the oven.
Step 5. Do not use the container if it is chipped, cracked, scratched or broken
A scratch or a noticeable chip could expand and cause a break when the container is heated; throw away any damaged ones. Similarly, you shouldn't use those that have fallen or been hit sharply with other kitchen utensils; incorrect use may have weakened them, so they will be more prone to breaking.
Step 6. When cooking vegetables, add a little liquid to the bowl, such as water or vegetable broth; this way you will make sure they don't stick to the bottom
Pour in the liquid before heating it, otherwise the container may experience thermal shock
Method 2 of 3: Preserve the Food
Step 1. Store food in the glass dish, whether it is raw or cooked
You can then put it in the freezer or refrigerator. For example, if you prepare lasagna using this container and want to freeze them to eat at another time, you can keep them inside and close the container with the special plastic lid (if one is provided).
Step 2. Defrost food before cooking
If you have frozen it inside the container, wait for it to thaw well before putting it in the oven, otherwise it could suffer a thermal shock, crack or break.
Step 3. The plastic lids are only for storing food in the refrigerator or freezer and cooking it in the microwave, but not in the traditional one
Several glass dishes are provided. Read the instructions before putting the lids in the microwave or dishwasher.
If you need to cover food to cook in the oven, use aluminum foil
Method 3 of 3: Take Care of It
Step 1. Wash the containers using anti-scratch sponges
Over time, scratches can crack and break the glass. Wash the container with a non-scratch nylon sponge to avoid this problem.
To remove encrusted dirt, immerse the pan in warm water before washing it. This will soften the food residues and make cleaning easier
Step 2. Try washing the dish with dish soap and baking soda to remove grease stains
Sprinkle the baking soda on the bottom of the container and pour in some detergent. Immerse it in lukewarm water for 15 minutes, then wipe it with an anti-scratch sponge.
Step 3. Handle the container carefully when washing, storing or using it for cooking
Do not scratch it with metal utensils, do not drop it or hit it with other pots and pans. Glass can crack over time, so take care of it - this way it will last you for years.
