Preparing for a geography exam can be difficult, especially if it's not your favorite subject. With these simple tips and a little bit of effort, though, you're sure to get good grades.
Steps
Step 1. Find out as soon as possible when the exam will take place and what topics it will cover
Step 2. Make a commitment to follow the advice in this guide for one hour each night
Step 3. Have a glass of water before you begin, and turn off your cell phone, Facebook, and any technology that might distract or disturb you
Step 4. Take out all of your notes
Step 5. Start by memorizing the things you find most difficult to learn, and repeat them three times
Step 6. The next move is to tackle the maps
Maps can be difficult to understand, so use the following techniques to read them easily.
- Memorize the shapes. For example, Italy remembers the shape of a boot and that's how everyone recognizes it.
- Learn the major cities first, then memorize the names of the smaller ones that surround them.
- Find on the Internet the song "Nations of the World" by Yakko Warner with the lyrics. Watching the video with the text at a glance several times will help you remember the names of the countries (be careful, it's in English).
Step 7. Try using rhymes to memorize things
If you can, create a meaningful word with the initials of the countries or cities or other names that you need to memorize
Step 8. Review the notes you have already learned
Even if you think you know things well, it's still best to make a little effort and not risk forgetting them.
Step 9. Review your notes and review the maps
Step 10. Ask a family member to ask you questions about the subject to see how long you can remember
Step 11. Make a list of the things you find easy to remember, one for the less easy ones and one for the things that are very difficult for you to learn
This can also make it easier for your teacher if you want to ask for their help during the preparation.
Step 12. Follow this routine every day, until your exam day
Advice
- If for some reason you have to skip a day, extend the next session by 10 or 20 minutes to make up for lost time.
- Don't listen to music while you study, especially if you have to memorize a lot of things.
- Limit your study time each night and use it constructively. Don't spend too much time studying just for the exam or you'll end up accumulating work on other subjects.
- Reward yourself if you think you worked hard !!
- If you have forgotten some notes or maps, ask the teacher to give you a copy, or borrow them from a classmate and make photocopies.
- Have fun while you study! Invite your friends to study so you can help each other.
- Know what kind of questions will be asked on the exam.
Warnings
- Complete your homework right after school, so in the late afternoon, when you're most tired, you'll have less to do.
- Don't let this override other things! Don't forget to have fun, see friends, go to the movies and shop.
