This article explains how to edit an Instagram post after it has already been published. While you can't edit the photo or video itself, you can make changes to the caption, tags, location, and alt text content.
Steps
Step 1. Open Instagram on your phone or tablet
The icon features a colorful camera with the tag "Instagram". You will find it on the Home screen or in the application menu.
Step 2. Click on your profile icon
It features a human silhouette (or your profile picture) and is located in the lower right corner of the screen. This way, your posts will be displayed.
Step 3. Scroll to the publication you want to edit
If you see the posts in some kind of grid, press on the thumbnail of one of them to open it.
Step 4. Click on ⋯ (iPhone / iPad) or ⁝ (Android).
This button is located in the upper right corner of the post. A menu will open.
Step 5. Select Edit
This will open an editable version of the publication.
If you want to delete the post instead of making changes, click on instead Delete.
Step 6. Edit the caption
To change the text that appears below the post, press on the typing area to open the keyboard, then make the desired changes.
Step 7. Add or remove a tag
If you want to tag another Instagram account in the post (or remove a tag), do the following:
- Press the button Tag people in the lower left corner of the photo or video - if you have already added tags, just click on the number of people tagged in the lower left corner;
- Select the user you want to tag;
- Start typing the name or nickname of the account you want to tag, then click on it when it appears in the search results;
- To remove a tag, tap on it, then tap on the button x which appears;
- Press on Done in the upper right corner when the procedure is completed.
Step 8. Add or edit the place
- To add a place, click on add location at the top of the publication. Start typing the seat name in the search bar, then select it when it appears.
- To edit a place, click on it at the top of the post. Press on Edit place, then choose a new one.
- To remove the place, tap on it at the top of the post and then tap on Remove place.
Step 9. Add or edit alt text
Alt text is added to photos to offer visual description to visually impaired Instagram users.
- Press on Edit the alt text in the lower right corner of the photo or video.
- Type or edit the text in the box.
- Press on Done in the upper right corner.
Step 10. Click Done once you have finished making the desired changes
This button is located in the upper right corner. The changes will then be applied.
