This article explains how to find new people to follow on Instagram. If you know the name of the profile you want to follow, you can easily search for it using the search tool provided by the social network. You can also use Instagram's Recommended People tool to get tips on who to follow, including your Facebook friends and contacts stored on your device.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Search Using a Username
Step 1. Open Instagram on your device
Press on the colored camera symbol in the application menu to launch Instagram. If you are already logged in, the social network home page will open.
Step 2. Click on the magnifying glass icon
It's the second at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Press on the search bar
This gray field is located at the top of the screen and has "Search" written in it. The phone keypad should appear.
Step 4. Click on the tab titled "Account"
This way, the search will be limited to Instagram users only.
Step 5. Type the account name
As you type, the results will appear below the search bar.
Step 6. Select the account you want to follow
This will open the profile of the user in question. If the page is public, you will see its post grid. If not, only his profile picture and bio will appear.
If you don't see the account you want to follow, try scrolling down
Step 7. Click on the blue button labeled Follow
It is located towards the top left corner of the page. You will then begin to follow the account displayed and, from now on, you can find it in the "Followed" section of your profile.
If the account is private, a request will be sent to the user once you press the button follow. If he approves it, you will start following him.
Method 2 of 3: Using the "Suggested People" Tool
Step 1. Open Instagram on your device
Press the colored camera icon in the application list to launch Instagram. If you are already logged in, the social network home page will open.
Step 2. Click on your profile icon
It depicts a human silhouette and is located in the lower right corner of the screen. Your profile will then be opened.
Step 3. Press the menu button ☰
It depicts three horizontal lines and is located in the upper right corner. A menu will open.
Step 4. Select + Suggested people
The icon for this option depicts a human silhouette with the sign of + next to. You will find it almost at the bottom of the menu. This will display the list of accounts that may be of interest to you.
Step 5. Search for a profile you want to follow
Scroll through the suggested accounts, until you find one you want to follow.
- If you have synchronized your address book with Instagram, in this list you will find some of your contacts who have an account. Read the method Synchronize Phone or Tablet Contacts to know how to do it.
- Haven't connected your Instagram account to Facebook? At the top of the screen you will see the "Facebook" option and, next to it, a blue button with the inscription Connect. If you want your Facebook friends on Instagram to appear in the suggested people list, select Connect and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to proceed with the configuration.
Step 6. Select a profile
The profile page of the user in question will then be opened, so that you can take a look at it. If the page is public, you will be able to see a grid with all of its posts. Otherwise, only your profile picture and bio will appear.
Step 7. Click Follow to start following the account
This blue button is located at the top of the screen. You will start following the selected account, so from now on you can find it in the section Followed of your profile.
- If the account is protected, by clicking on follow a request will be sent to the profile holder. In case he approves it, you will start following him.
- Click on the arrow at the top left to go back to the suggested people page, where you can find other users to follow.
Method 3 of 3: Synchronize Phone or Tablet Contacts
Step 1. Open Instagram on your device
Press the colored camera icon in the application list to launch Instagram. If you are already logged in, the social network home page will open.
Step 2. Click on your profile icon
It depicts a human silhouette and is located in the lower right corner of the screen. Your profile will then be opened.
Step 3. Press the menu button ☰
The icon looks like three horizontal lines and is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A menu will open.
Step 4. Select Settings
The icon looks like a gear and you can find it at the top of the menu.
Step 5. Select Account
This option is found almost at the bottom of the menu.
Step 6. Select Contact Synchronization
This option is located more or less in the middle of the menu.
Step 7. Swipe the "Connect Contacts" switch to activate it
Your phone contacts will be synced with Instagram's servers. When the sync is complete, you will begin to see contacts who have an account on Instagram in the list of suggested people.
You can deactivate this feature at any time you want by sliding a finger on the switch again

- If you have information on your account that you don't want to show publicly, it's best to make it private.
- Synchronizing your contact list with Instagram will allow your friends, family and people from your professional sphere to find your personal account.
