This article explains how to use the "Stamp" key to take a screenshot using a Windows computer. You will learn how to use key combinations that will allow you to quickly and very easily take a screenshot of the entire screen or a single window.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Take a Screenshot of the Entire Screen
Step 1. Locate the Print button
The precise location varies by keyboard model, but is usually located in the upper right area, after the function keys (F1-F12). Depending on the type of keyboard, it is characterized by the wording Stamp, Prt Sc, Prnt Scrn or a similar voice.
- If the screen capture function is implemented as a second function of a specific key, "Stamp" will appear at the bottom of the key, sometimes in a color other than white. To use it, you will have to hold down the key Fn keyboard before pressing the associated key.
- If your computer keyboard does not have a "Stamp" key, you can simulate its function by pressing the key combination Fn And Ins.
Step 2. Display on the screen the contents you want to be inserted in the screenshot
When taking a screenshot using the method described in this section of the article, everything displayed on the computer screen, except the mouse pointer, will be included in the resulting image.
If there is any personal or sensitive information on the screen, make sure you don't take the screenshot or share it with other people
Step 3. Press the key combination ⊞ Win + Stamp
This will automatically take a screenshot of the entire screen and save it as an image on your computer. The latter will be stored in a folder called "Screenshots" which you can find in the "Images" directory.
- To quickly find the "Screenshots" folder, type the keyword screenshot into the Windows search bar, then click on the folder with the same name as soon as it appears in the search results list. The name of the image will contain the creation date.
- If to use the "Print" key you must also press the key Fn, you will need to use the key combination ⊞ Win + Fn + Stamp. Use this key combination only if the screen "print" function is implemented as a second function of another key.
Method 2 of 2: Take a Screenshot of a Window
Step 1. Locate the Print button

Step 2. Open the window that will be the subject of the screenshot
When using this method to create a screenshot, only the currently active computer window will appear in the resulting image.
After opening the window in question, do not minimize it and do not move to another window. In order to become the subject of the screenshot, the window in question must remain the one currently active. To be sure, click on the title bar of the window
Step 3. Press the Alt + Stamp combination
This way the image of the active window will be copied to the system clipboard of the computer. At this point you can paste it into an image editor and save it to disk.
If to use the "Print" key you must also press the key Fn, you will need to use the key combination Alt + Fn + Stamp. Use this key combination only if the screen "print" function is implemented as a second function of another key.
Step 4. Launch the Paint app
You can find it in the "All apps" tab of the Windows "Start" menu in the folder Windows Accessories. Alternatively, you can type the keyword paint into the Windows search bar and click on the app Paint which will appear in the list of results.
If you don't want to store the image on disk as a file, you can paste it directly into a document, email or any other program or app by clicking on the desired location and pressing the key combination Ctrl + V..
Step 5. Click the Paste button
It features a clipboard and is located in the upper left corner of the Paint window. This way the screenshot will be pasted into the program window.
Step 6. Click on the floppy disk icon to save the screenshot to disk
It is located in the upper left corner of the window.
Step 7. Go to the Screenshots folder, then click the button Save.
The "Screenshots" folder is stored in the "Pictures" directory which you can find in the left panel of the dialog box that appeared. The screenshot will be stored in the indicated folder as an image.
Advice
- The "Print" button is very useful for creating a digital copy of important documents, such as confirming an online order, without having to physically print them.
- If you want to have advanced features to take a screenshot, try using the Windows "Snipping Tool" app which allows you to take a screenshot and edit it using a very simple graphic app.
- The "Print" key cannot be used to print a paper document.
