With the passage of time and constant use, your MacBook's battery controller will have more and more difficulty determining the remaining charge. This article explains how to calibrate this computer component to maximize your experience when using a MacBook.
Steps
Step 1. Connect the MacBook to the power supply
Step 2. Wait for the battery to be fully charged
When the Mac battery is fully charged, the power supply light changes from orange (indicating that the battery is charging) to green (indicating that charging is complete). You can check if the battery is charged by pressing the button located on the bottom side of the Mac exactly in the position where the battery is. If the latter is fully charged, all the lights will turn green. Alternatively, you can consult the battery indicator located directly on the status bar of the Mac.
Step 3. Keep the battery fully charged for at least 2 hours
Leave your Mac's charger plugged into the mains and make sure the corresponding light is green. During this time, keep using your computer as you normally do. Remember to leave it on and not to turn it off.
Step 4. Disconnect the charger from the Mac
Step 5. Fully discharge the computer battery
Leave the computer on and use it as you normally would. When you are warned that the battery is about to discharge completely, be sure to save all open files so you don't lose your work. When the remaining battery charge reaches a critical level, your Mac will automatically enter sleep mode.
Step 6. Wait 5 hours leaving the Mac in sleep mode
In this way the battery will be completely discharged and the processor will be correctly calibrated by detecting the current state of the remaining battery charge.
Step 7. Recharge the Mac battery
At this point the calibration procedure is complete.
Advice
- When the battery is low, save your work more frequently to avoid losing important information.
- The steps described should be performed every time you purchase a new battery or a new MacBook.
- When the battery is low, the computer automatically goes into sleep mode. When you turn it back on, it will pick up exactly where it left off.
- If you use mains power more often than battery power, calibrate more frequently.
- To always have a correct calibration of your Mac's battery, perform the above procedure every couple of months.
