This article explains how to find a website address on a computer, phone, or tablet. If you're looking for the site of a company, person, product, or organization, you can usually find the URL using a search engine like Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. If, on the other hand, you are already visiting the web page with the URL you are interested in, you can copy it from the address bar and paste it wherever you like, for example in an email, in a message or in another browser tab.
Steps
Step 1. Visit the Google home page with a web browser
You can use the browser of your choice from your computer, phone or tablet, such as Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
- If you've already opened the site whose URL you want to find out, go to Step 6.
- Google is the most popular search engine, but there are many alternatives. If you don't find what you're looking for on Google (or just prefer another service), try Bing or DuckDuckGo.
Step 2. Type the name you are looking for in the search bar
You will see the text field at the top of the page. For example, if you are looking for the URL of Generali, the insurance company, you can write Generali or Assicurazioni Generali.
- If you are looking for something consisting of multiple words (for example, the first and last name of a person or company with a long name), try putting your search in quotes, in order to get more precise results. For example: "Paolo Bonolis" or "Hello Darwin".
- If you are looking for a person or company with a common name, it may be helpful to add the position or other useful keywords in your search. For example: Pizzeria la Torre in Rome or "Mario Rossi" lawyer in Bologna.
Step 3. Search
If you are using the computer, press Enter on the keyboard. With your phone or tablet instead, tap on search for or button Enter. A list of results will appear.
Step 4. Consult the search results
Usually, the first entries are Google's promotional ads. You will see the word "Ann." in black letters, in bold, at the beginning of all advertisements. Scroll past this section to find the search results.
- If you are using a computer, all or part of the website URL appears above the link that you can click to open the page. For example, if you searched for wikiHow, you will find www.wikihow.it above.
- Not all search results will be from official websites. For example, if you're looking for a company, you might find results for the company's Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook profiles, as well as the website. You can also find company reviews and similar company pages.
Step 5. Click on a link to view the website
The page you are interested in will open immediately.
Step 6. Find the website URL
You will see it in the address bar, which is usually found at the top of the browser window. On some Android devices, the bar is at the bottom of the Chrome window.
Step 7. Copy the URL
If you want to insert it in a message, post or other app, you can copy and paste it from the address bar.
- If you are using a PC or Mac, click on the URL to select it, then press Control + C (PC) or Command + C (Mac) to copy it.
- On phones or tablets, press and hold the URL in the address bar, then tap Copy when the context menu appears.
Step 8. Paste the URL
Now that you've copied it to your clipboard, you can paste it wherever you like:
- If you're using a PC or Mac, right-click (or press Control while clicking with a Mac) on the place where you want to paste the URL, then click on Paste from the menu that appears.
- On phones or tablets, press and hold where you want to paste the URL, then press Paste when the menu appears.
