This wikiHow teaches you how to locate and view web account passwords stored within Google Chrome using a desktop computer or laptop.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Sign in to Chrome
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome
It features a red, yellow, and green circular icon with a blue sphere in the center. It is located inside the Mac's "Applications" folder or in the Windows "Start" menu.
Step 2. Click the stylized human silhouette icon in the upper right corner of the Chrome window
It is located above the button in the shape of three vertically aligned dots visible in the upper right of the program window. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3. Press the blue button Log in to Chrome
This will allow you to log into your Google account using the pop-up window that will appear.
As soon as you are logged in, the name of the Google account used will be displayed in place of the silhouette icon
Step 4. Enter the Google account email address
To log in to Chrome use your Google account.
Step 5. Press the blue Next button
It is located in the lower right corner of the pop-up window that appears. In this way you will have the possibility to enter the relative password.
Step 6. Type the password of the account provided
This is the same password you use to log into your Gmail inbox.
Step 7. Press the Next button
This will log you into Chrome with the indicated Google account.
Step 8. Press the OK button to close the pop-up window you used to log in
Method 2 of 2: Find a Saved Password
Step 1. Press the button in the shape of three vertically aligned dots
It is located in the upper right corner of the browser window, next to the address bar. The Chrome main menu will appear.
Step 2. Choose the Settings option
The "Settings" page will appear in a new browser tab.
Step 3. Scroll through the list that appeared all the way to locate and select the Advanced link
The "Settings" menu will be expanded to show new configuration options that were previously hidden.
Step 4. Scroll down the list to locate the "Passwords and Forms" section
This section stores all the information relating to the passwords saved in Chrome.
Step 5. Select the Password Management option visible within the "Passwords and Forms" section
You will see the list of usernames and their passwords stored within Chrome.
Step 6. Click the vertically aligned three dots icon next to the password you want to view
All passwords in the list are hidden by default by Chrome. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 7. Choose the Details option
A new pop-up window will appear showing the website, username and password of the selected web account.
Step 8. Click the stylized eye icon next to the text field where the password is stored
The latter will be displayed in clear text. In order to perform this step you will first need to confirm your identity.
Step 9. Enter the password you use to log into your computer
This is the same password you use to log in with the account currently in use on your Windows or Mac computer when you start it.
Step 10. Press the OK button
If the password entered is correct, the verification procedure will be successful and the password will be displayed in clear text.
Step 11. The password you are looking for will be visible in plain text in the "Password" text field
The latter is located at the bottom of the pop-up window relating to the detailed information of the selected web account.
