This article explains how to create a Bitmoji character on Android, iPhone, iPad, or Google Chrome for desktop.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Set up Bitmoji on an iPhone
Step 1. Install the Bitmoji application
Open the App Store
then do the following:
- Tap "Search".
- Tap the search bar.
- Type bitmoji, then tap "Search".
- Tap "Get" next to the "Bitmoji" title.
- When prompted, enter your Touch ID or Apple ID.
Step 2. Open Bitmoji
Once the installation is complete, tap "Open" in the App Store, or tap the Bitmoji icon (a green dialogue bubble containing a winking smiley face) on the main screen.
Step 3. Sign up for Bitmoji
Depending on how you intend to use it, you will need to do the following:
- Snapchat: Tap "Log in with Snapchat", enter your Snapchat username or email address, type your password, then tap "Log In". At this point you can read the section dedicated to Snapchat.
- Email: Tap "Sign in via email", select your date of birth, tap "Continue", enter your first name, last name, email address and password, then tap "Register".
Step 4. Select your gender
To do this you need to tap the male or female avatar icon.
- Bitmoji currently only offers male and female avatars.
- If prompted to take a selfie, tap "Skip" if necessary.
Step 5. Create your Bitmoji character
Once you have selected your gender, you can proceed by adding specific details. Select the button that best represents your physical appearance, then tap
. Here are some features you can change:
- Complexion.
- Eye shape.
- Hair colour.
- Jaw.
- Face accessories (such as glasses).
- Outfit.
Step 6. Tap Save Your Avatar
It's a green button at the bottom of the screen. It will appear once you are done setting up your Bitmoji character.
Step 7. Add the Bitmoji keyboard to your iPhone
Bitmoji avatars can be added to iPhone keyboards. At that point you will have the option to paste the Bitmoji into almost any application that has a text box.
Step 8. Use Bitmoji in applications that allow you to use the keyboard
If you want to use Bitmoji in an application that you have installed on the iPhone, do the following:
- Open an application that allows you to use the keyboard (such as a messaging app).
- Tap the text box to open the keyboard.
- Tap and hold the globe icon, located at the bottom left.
- Select "Bitmoji".
- Select a Bitmoji avatar.
- Touch and hold the text box, then release your finger and tap "Paste".
Step 9. Edit your Bitmoji character whenever you want
If you prefer the avatar to be different, open the application and tap the "Edit" icon, which features a human silhouette flanked by a pencil and is located at the top right. This way you can change the character's physical appearance.
Method 2 of 4: Set up Bitmoji on Android
Step 1. Install the Bitmoji application
Open the Google Play Store
then do the following:
- Tap the search bar.
- Type bitmoji, then tap "Bitmoji - Your avatar emoji" in the drop-down menu.
- Tap "Install", then, if prompted, tap "Accept".
Step 2. Open Bitmoji
When the installation is complete, tap "Open" in the Google Play Store, otherwise tap the Bitmoji icon (a green dialogue bubble containing a smiley face) in the app drawer.
Step 3. Sign up for Bitmoji
Depending on the account you want to associate it with, you will need to do the following:
- Snapchat: Tap "Log in with Snapchat", enter your Snapchat username or email address and password, then tap "Log In". At this point you can go to the Snapchat section.
- Email: Tap "Sign in via email", select your date of birth, tap "Continue", then enter your first name, last name, email address and password. Tap "Sign in".
Step 4. Select a gender
Tap the male or female avatar icon to do so.
- Bitmoji currently only offers female and male avatars.
- If prompted to take a selfie, tap "Skip" if necessary.
Step 5. Create your Bitmoji character
Once the genre has been selected, you can proceed by adding more details. Just select the various buttons at the bottom of the page and then tap
. Here are some features you can change:
- Complexion.
- Eye shape.
- Hair colour.
- Jaw.
- Face accessories (such as glasses).
- Outfit.
Step 6. Tap Save Avatar
It's a green button that appears at the bottom of the page after you're done setting up the Bitmoji.
Step 7. Add the Bitmoji keyboard to your Android device
If you want to use Bitmoji on other applications, you can add the various options associated with the Bitmoji avatar to the Android keyboard. You will then be able to select the Bitmoji keyboard by keeping the globe icon pressed and choosing this keyboard.
- Bitmoji can only be used with Gboard, which is the Google keyboard found on many Android devices. The Gboard can be installed from the Play Store.
- Keep in mind that Bitmoji is not supported by all apps, although you will have the option of using it to send avatars to various messaging applications, such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
Step 8. Edit your Bitmoji whenever you want
If you want it to be different, open the app and tap the "Edit" icon, which features a human silhouette flanked by a pencil and is located at the top right. At that point you can change the appearance of the Bitmoji.
Method 3 of 4: Connect Bitmoji to Snapchat
Step 1. Open
Snapchat.
Tap the Snapchat icon, which features a white ghost on a yellow background. If you are already logged in, the camera will open.
If login doesn't happen automatically, tap "Login", then enter your email address (or username) and password. Then, tap "Sign in" again
Step 2. Tap the profile icon
It is located in the upper left. The Snapchat profile page will open.
Step 3. Tap Add Bitmoji
This option is located in the center of the screen. The Snapchat page dedicated to Bitmoji will open.
Step 4. Tap Create Bitmoji
It is located in the center of the Bitmoji page.
Step 5. Tap Agree & Connect when prompted
This way the Bitmoji character you created will be linked to your Snapchat account.
If you haven't created a Bitmoji via your email address, you'll need to create a character instead
Method 4 of 4: Using Bitmoji on Google Chrome
Step 1. Make sure you have created a Bitmoji
If you want to use Bitmoji on Google Chrome, you must first create a character on your iPhone or Android device.
Step 2. Open
Google Chrome.
Click on the Chrome icon, which looks like a multicolored sphere.
Bitmoji is only available on Google Chrome. It cannot be used on Firefox, Safari, Edge or other browsers
Step 3. Open this site
On this page you can download the Bitmoji extension.
Step 4. Click Add
It's a blue button that sits at the top of the page.
Step 5. Click Add Extension when prompted
This way you can install it on your browser.
Step 6. Log into your Bitmoji account
Click on "Login with Snapchat", then enter your login credentials, or type your email address and password in the "Login with your Bitmoji account" section, then click "Login".
Step 7. Click on the Bitmoji extension icon
It features a smiley face on a green background and is located at the top right. A drop-down menu will appear.
If you don't see the extension icon, click "⋮" at the top right, then click the Bitmoji icon in the drop-down menu
Step 8. Click Get Started
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu. This will connect the Chrome extension to the Bitmoji you created on your smartphone.
Step 9. Find a Bitmoji to use
Review the character's main propositions or click on the tabs at the bottom of the drop-down menu to select other types of Bitmoji.
Step 10. Copy the Bitmoji
Click on the character you want to use with the right mouse button, then click on "Copy Image" in the drop-down menu that appears.
Step 11. Paste the Bitmoji
Once you have copied the character, you can paste it into any text field that allows you to attach images by clicking on the message box and then pressing Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ Command + V (Mac).
Advice
- Bitmojis can be added anywhere from emails to text messages, so use them whenever you want.
- To remove Bitmoji from Chrome, right click on the icon, then click "Remove from Chrome …" and click "Remove" again when prompted.
