With the right technique and adequate patience, you will be able to build a house of cards of three, four or even five floors, using just one deck of cards. If the technique is right, the result will be equally impressive, whether you build the castle in the privacy of your living room, or use these tips to wow friends at a party.
Steps
Step 1. Get a deck of cards
You should choose a fairly new deck, in fact old cards that have folds and ruined edges are not very useful for building, while a freshly opened deck is too slippery. See the tips below. It is better if the decoration of the deck is beautiful, so that the result is more pleasant.
Step 2. Take two cards from the deck
Arrange the cards so that at the base they are about 5 cm apart, and that they touch at the top, in the shape of an inverted "V". The top vertex must remain in balance.
Step 3. Build another vertex with two more cards next to the first one, about an inch apart
Step 4. Place a horizontal card on top of the two newly created vertices
Step 5. Build another vertex on the horizontal paper
This forms the second floor of the castle.
Step 6. Add another vertex close to the two existing ones, and repeat the process
with a base of three vertices, you can create a third plane in height, with a base of four vertices, you can create a fourth plane, and so on.
Step 7. Finished
Advice
- You can lick the edges that rest on the vertex before joining them, but be careful not to wet them too much, otherwise they will not give stability to the construction.
- Do not build with the fan on!
- When building the last item on top of the castle, remove your hands slowly and carefully.
- Relax and be patient! If you hurry, you could cause collapse or build weak foundations.
- If you need help placing the cards at the correct distance, you can use a Lego platform.
- Don't give up after the first unsuccessful attempts. Patience is a virtue that must be exercised. You need steady hands at all times during the construction of the castle.
- Try to exhale to the side, so as not to drop the construction!
- If your hands start shaking, try squeezing a stress reliever ball. Often the shaking is due to the effort to coordinate movements with vision, and alternatively you can try shaking your wrists for a few moments.
- You can search for different constructions and methods on the internet, where you find information for many models and techniques.
- Standard-sized playing cards are best suited for building the castle.
- If you have a friend who can help you build the castle, even better. As the building grows in height, you can ask those who help you to hold the cards firmly on the floor below the one you are working on.
- Look for a surface that's not too slippery, otherwise the cards won't stand up. You can work on a carpet, away from moving objects or anything else.
- If the cards are new they could be too slippery, it is better that you mix them to wear the corners a little, without damaging them.
- Hold your breath as you build.
- Work away from animals, children, or passageways, all risks for the collapse of the structure.
- Be careful not to have greasy hands! Wash with soap first.
