Step 1. Choose what kind of Link you want to be
There are more than 10 different Links in the series, so it could be a challenging decision. The most recognizable link is certainly that of Ocarina of Time. Check out the Tips section for some more ideas on how to cosplay Link based on a different version.
Step 2. Get a green beret
If you can't find one, a green wizard hat is fine too. If you have fabric that you can use, take your head measurements and cut two long triangles. Then sew the fabric into a hat. If you are wearing a wig, please remember to include it in your measurements.
Step 3. Wear a white shirt with a collar and long sleeves
If you don't have a suitable one, you can always use a collarless shirt and sew one up later.
Step 4. Wear a green tunic over the white shirt
Remember that the tunic must be longer than the shirt. You can buy a fabric suitable for making a tunic at a fabric store and modify it, or use a very large shirt. If you're planning on cosplaying Twilight Princess Link, make a larger tunic using chainmail fabric.
Step 5. Wear a burgundy belt
Step 6. Wear brown bands around your wrists
Step 7. Put on a pair of brown gloves
You can also sew them directly by working a piece of leather.
Step 8. Put on some white leggings
Tight, elastic trousers are the best choice.
Step 9. If you don't have blonde hair, wear a wig
Remember that Link has long hair (at least for a boy). The Twilight Princess version has short hair instead.
Step 10. Wear elf ears
If you don't already have them, try making a pair out of papier mache. You can also buy them at a costume shop.
Step 11. Put on brown boots:
if the ones in your possession don't look like the pair Link wears, you may need to modify them.
Step 12. Obtain a sword and shield (but also other weapons if needed)
You can also use foam resin to make the Master Sword and shield.
Step 13. Use the sword holding it in your left hand (in the right for the Skyward Sword version or for the Wii version of Twilight Princess) and hold the shield in the right hand (in the left for the Skyward Sword version or for the Wii version of Twilight) Princess)
Here you are Link! Defend Zelda from Ganondorf!

Advice
- Practice saying exclamations like "Hya" frequently. Link doesn't speak, so try to stay as quiet as possible.
- Instead of using wood, try using crepe paper or foam resin to make weapons.
- If you want to be appreciated as a true fan, try making your own outfit like the one featured in the Twilight Princess version, Ocarina of Time, or based on the old Link outfits from the NES games. It's also okay to dress up as Link from Wind Waker, but other fans might like it a little less.
- If you can't buy a shield and want yours to be just like Link's, ask an adult to help you carve one out of wood and have fun decorating it.
- If you want the best possible effect, try to make a gold shield (blue if you follow the Twilight Princess version), a hook earring to wear on the right ear (a clip earring will be fine) and to paint a Triforce on the left hand, coloring all 3 pieces red.
- Instead of the wig you can use a removable coloring spray. It is an inexpensive alternative, but remember that this makes it easy to get dirty and stained on your clothes.
- Instead of using a white t-shirt and leggings, you can wear a brown t-shirt and leggings or shorts, take off your gloves and wristbands, and have brown hair like the old-fashioned Link.
- If you want to make the Ocarina of Time Young Link costume, you won't need the leggings, t-shirt, wrist bands and gloves.
- The sword can also be made of wood, but remember to paint it in silver.
- If you really want to make a costume with great fanfare, try to get yourself a 9 or 12 hole blue ocarina.
- If you want to make the Minish Cap / Wind Waker / Four Swords / Phantom Hourglass Link, remember that the tunic should be black / green / blue / purple / red respectively and the shirt should be a lighter shade of the same color. No gloves are needed for this costume. You can ask 3 other friends to join to create the Four Sword Link group.
