This article explains how to install the free VLC Media Player on your computer or mobile device. VLC is available for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android platforms.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Windows
Step 1. Visit VLC Media Palyer Official Website
Type the URL https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.it.html into the address bar of the browser and press the "Enter" key.
Step 2. Click the Download VLC button
It is orange in color and located on the right side in the center of the page.
Step 3. Select the folder to download the installation file if prompted
This way, the file you will need to install VLC will be downloaded locally to your computer.
The VLC installation file will be downloaded automatically, so if you are not prompted to select the destination folder, skip this step
Step 4. Double click on the VLC installation file you just downloaded
You should find it inside the default folder where all the files you download from the web via browser are stored.
Step 5. Click the Yes button when prompted
The program installation wizard will start.
Step 6. Select the installation language
When prompted, click on the drop-down menu for the language to use for the installation and choose the language you prefer. At this point, click on the button OK to continue.
Step 7. Click the Next button three times consecutively
You will be redirected to the installation screen.
Step 8. Click the Install button
It is located at the bottom of the window. VLC Media Player will automatically be installed on your computer.
Step 9. Launch the program
At the end of the installation of VLC, you can start the program by clicking on the button end after making sure that the "Start VLC Media Player" checkbox is checked.
When you want to start VLC in the future, you will need to double-click the program icon displayed on the desktop or in the Windows "Start" menu
Method 2 of 4: Mac
Step 1. Visit VLC Media Palyer Official Website
Type the URL https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.it.html into the address bar of the browser and press the "Enter" key.
Step 2. Click the Download VLC button
It is orange in color and located on the right side of the page.
Step 3. Select the folder to download the installation file, if required
This way, the file you will need to install VLC will be downloaded locally to your computer.
The VLC installation file will be downloaded automatically, so if you are not prompted to select the destination folder, skip this step
Step 4. Open the DMG file you just downloaded
Go to the folder where your browser stores all the files you download from the web and double-click the VLC DMG file. The installation procedure will start.
Step 5. Drag the VLC Media Player icon to the "Applications" folder
The latter is listed on the left side of the window that appeared. The VLC app icon has an orange traffic cone and will be displayed in the main window pane. The VLC app will be installed on the Mac.
Step 6. Run VLC
When starting the program for the first time after installation, you will need to follow these instructions:
- Double-click the VLC app icon displayed in the "Applications" folder;
- Wait for the Mac to check the VLC Media Player program;
- Click on the button You open when required.
Method 3 of 4: iOS devices
Step 1. Access the iPhone App Store by tapping the icon
It is characterized by the white letter "A" placed on a light blue background.
Step 2. Select the Search tab
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the search bar
It is the gray text field in which "App Store" is displayed and is located at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Search for the VLC Media Player app
Type in the keyword vlc, then press the blue button Search for located in the lower right corner of the virtual keyboard of the device.
Step 5. Locate the "VLC for Mobile" section
Scroll through the list of results until you find the official VLC app for iOS devices, featuring the classic orange traffic cone.
Step 6. Press the Get button
It is located to the right of the "VLC for Mobile" section.

If you have already downloaded the VLC app before, you will need to press the button

Step 7. Log in with Touch ID or by entering your Apple ID password when prompted
At this point, the VLC app will automatically be installed on the iPhone.
As soon as the installation of the program is complete, you will be able to launch VLC by pressing the button You open of the App Store.
Method 4 of 4: Android devices
Step 1. Access your device's Google Play Store by tapping the icon
It features a multicolored right-facing triangle set against a white background.
Step 2. Tap the search bar displayed at the top of the screen
The virtual keyboard of the device will appear on the screen.
Step 3. View the Google store VLC page
Type the keyword vlc in the search bar, then tap the entry VLC for Android which will appear in the list of results.
Step 4. Press the Install button
It is located on the right side of the appeared page. The VLC app for Android will be downloaded and installed on the device.
- If prompted, press the button Allow, which will appear after pressing the button Install, to confirm the download.
- Once the installation is complete, you can launch the VLC app directly from the Play Store page by pressing the button You open.
