Eyelash extensions are synthetic elements to be applied directly to your natural lashes with a special glue. Eyelash extensions are different from the false eyelash strips found at wholesalers. The application procedure takes at least an hour if done by a professional, while beginners could take up to three hours. False lashes last two to three weeks and fall out the moment the natural lash falls out. Read on to learn how to apply these extensions to a friend using a DIY kit.
Steps
Step 1. Purchase a kit for applying eyelash extensions
The kit contains, among other things, eyelashes of different lengths, tweezers, eyelash glue, glue remover and an eyelash brush. Each kit is different, so follow the instructions included in your box.
Step 2. Cleanse your lashes
A washcloth or cloth may be helpful in removing makeup and dirt completely so that the glue sticks well to the lashes. Wait for your lashes to dry before applying extensions.
Step 3. Cover your lower lashes with a white pad or tape
The kit should contain a gel pad or duct tape to help flatten the lower lashes. When the eyelid is closed, the upper lashes will rest on a white surface. The contrast will make them more visible and it will be easier to work on each individual lash.
Step 4. Have your friend close her eyes and make sure the pad or tape does not cause her upper lashes to rise
Comb the upper lashes to separate them and make them smooth.
Step 5. Squeeze a drop of glue onto a flat surface
You won't need a lot of glue for each lash - a drop the size of a fiver might be enough to complete the application of the extensions.
Step 6. Grab one lash with tweezers and run half of it over the glue
Start from the inner corner of the eye and gently place the extension against the natural lash you will attach it to. Slowly drop the synthetic lash over your natural lash, about an millimeter or two from the lid.
Step 7. Continue along the eyelid line, taking care to separate each lash with tweezers before applying the extension
If a single false lash adheres to two natural lashes, you have at least ten seconds to move the extension and apply it to the right lash before the glue dries.
Step 8. Apply the last lash on the outermost corner of the upper lashes and let them dry for ten seconds
Remove the tape or gel pad from the lower lid and have your friend open her eyes again.
Advice
If there is no one who can apply extensions to your lashes, consider going to a professional. Trying to do it yourself is risky as the glue can damage your skin or natural lashes if not applied correctly
Warnings
- Do not wet the lashes for at least two days after application to avoid melting the glue.
- Do not apply oil-based mascara if your lashes have extensions, as it may cause the glue to melt.
