Rooting your Samsung Galaxy S4 gives you the privileges to fully manage the device and the ability to install custom software (a bit like Administrator in Windows operating systems). On the Galaxy S4 this can be done by activating the developer menu and using the Motochopper software to complete the process.
Steps
Step 1. Verify that the personal data stored on the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been backed up
Rooting your device can result in data loss.
Save contacts to your SIM card or Google's servers. Also check that your photos and media have been saved to a cloud storage application or a micro-SD card on your phone
Step 2. Connect to the XDA Developers site at this address using a browser on your computer
Step 3. Click on the link provided in the first post to download the Motochopper program
This is the software that will help you root your mobile.
Step 4. Open or extract the Motochopper zip file on your computer
A window with all the application files and folders will be displayed on the screen.
Step 5. Press on "Menu" and select "Settings" on the Samsung Galaxy S4
Step 6. Tap on "More", then tap on "About device"
Step 7. Scroll to "Build Version" and tap the option repeatedly or at least seven times, until the screen displays "You are now a developer"
Step 8. Tap the back button, then tap "Developer options"
Step 9. Put a check mark next to "USB debug"
Step 10. Connect the Galaxy S4 to the computer using a USB cable
Step 11. Double click on the file named "run
bat on your Windows computer.
If you're using a Mac, open the Terminal application and type the following commands on separate lines:
- cd desktop
- cd motochopper
- ./run.sh
Step 12. Press "Enter" when the "run.bat" file prompts you to do so
Step 13. Tap "OK" on the Samsung Galaxy S4 when prompted to allow USB debugging
The device will now enter the root process.
Step 14. Wait for the Galaxy S4 to complete the operation
The process can take several minutes.
Step 15. When the computer informs you that the root is complete, press "Enter"
The Galaxy S4 will restart.
Step 16. Once the device has restarted tap the "Menu" and verify that the "Superuser" application is installed on the phone
Your Galaxy S4 can now be fully managed with all privileges of an admin user.
