The Wall Street Journal is notoriously strict about who can access their articles. As a result, it is very difficult to read one without a paid subscription. However, there are a few ways to find some items, such as clicking on linked ones on social media or signing up for a free trial.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use a Reader Application or Browser Extension
Step 1. Download a newspaper reader app or extension
Some phone applications and browser extensions currently provide access to articles for free. One such app is called Read Across The Aisle and is available on iOS or the Google Chrome browser.
- On iOS, search for it in the Play Store;
- For Chrome, open a new page and click on the Apps tab in the upper left corner of the screen to access the web store.
Step 2. Open the app or extension
On an Apple device, all you need to do is tap the icon when the installation is complete. For Chrome, open a new tab. This page displays information about the news websites you have visited.
If you don't see this information when you open a new tab on Chrome, disable adblockers in your antivirus program or browser extension list
Step 3. Click on the "Wall Street Journal" link
Find the words "Wall Street Journal" prominently displayed on the page. Tap or click on this link to access the "WSJ" website..
Step 4. Enter your email address
You cannot access the website until you sign up for a 7 day trial period. All you have to do is enter your email address. As soon as you do that, the site will open and you can browse through any article.
Step 5. Renew trial subscription every 7 days
This part might be a little annoying, but after 7 days your trial period will expire. When you log into the site, the message requesting your email address will be displayed again. Enter your email to get another trial period. Through the app, you can renew your free trial whenever it runs out.
Method 2 of 3: Read it in a Library
Step 1. Find a library near you that collaborates with the WSJ
Some offer free access to publication content. Search the online resources offered by your library. If the library provides access to newspaper publications, it will most likely include articles from the Wall Street Journal.
Step 2. Visit the library to access the Wall Street Journal
The use of this resource is most likely prohibited unless you are in the library. Use any of the computers offered by the library, as these are the only verified devices from which to access the articles.
Some libraries still receive the printed version of the publication, so search the newspaper section even if your library does not offer the online resource
Step 3. Browse the library's online resources to access
Enter "Wall Street Journal" in the search bar or go to the online resources page. Scroll down to find a link to the "WSJ" website or an archived edition of the document to start reading the articles.
Depending on the library's policies, you may need to obtain a card from the staff and use it to access their website. Check with librarians if you have any questions to ask
Method 3 of 3: Find Links to Articles on Social Media
Step 1. Follow the WSJ reporters on Twitter to read free articles
Find these reporters by searching for "WSJ staff" on Twitter or other social media platform. After searching on Twitter, click on the "People" tab at the top of the page to find some official employee profiles of the "WSJ". Sometimes the staff publishes links from which you can read an article for free.
These links are only valid for a single article. You will not be able to read other articles if you do not find the relevant link
Step 2. Get some subscribers to send you the links
If you know someone who subscribes to the WSJ, they can give you access to the articles. Ask him to send you the articles you want to read. After clicking on the relevant link, you will be able to read them for free.
Step 3. Track the news posted on social media
Some readers may post the article links on social media. Search for "WSJ" on Twitter. Click on the "News" tab at the top of the page. You will see a list of recent posts on articles related to the newspaper in question. Click on a post to access the article on The Wall Street Journal website.
On other sites, like Facebook, look for the WSJ or the names of its reporters
Step 4. Find the WSJ account on Snapchat
First, download the Snapchat app on your mobile device. Sign in, then type "Wall Street Journal" in the search bar. You will see the WSJ account along with a short history. Scroll to the end of the story to get a link to the article itself. This method only works with articles posted on Snapchat.
