The origami swan has a very traditional structure and is really simple to make. The fact that it only requires several folds up and down makes it ideal for beginners. The first results may be gross, but you will soon be able to get a beautiful and elegant swan, perhaps with a few hours of practice.

Steps

Step 1. Take a square piece of paper and turn it over so that the colored side is face down

Step 2. Fold the piece of paper in half on the diagonal to make a triangle

Step 3. Unfold the triangle, which will then become a square again

Step 4. Take the two edges opposite the diagonal and fold them bringing them over it, giving the paper the shape of a kite

Step 5. Turn the piece of paper over

Step 6. Fold the longer outer edges of the kite back over the center crease

The kite will now be narrower and will have two triangles on one side.

Step 7. Without turning the paper, take the bottom tip of the kite (the narrowest one) and fold it over the top tip, leaving it above the center crease

Step 8. Now, take the narrowest tip and fold it back on itself, forming a triangle no more than 1 or 2 centimeters

The triangle formed in the previous step will now look like a rather elongated trapezoid.

Step 9. Remember the first fold we created in step 2?

Fold it in half again, leaving the design formed by the various previous folds on the outside.

Step 10. Squeezing the base of the triangle firmly, pull the tip of the triangle up to the desired height:

it can be straight or at an angle.

Step 11. Pull the little tip out, so you get a beak

Step 12. Decorate as you like

Advice

  • Make sure the folds are smooth and wrinkle-free - the smoother they are, the sleeker the swan will look.
  • Use decorative paper and your swan will look even better!
  • If the paper is difficult to fold due to excessive folding, start over with a new sheet, or your swan will look shriveled.
  • In step 1, the white side of the paper can also be placed face down - the end result will be a predominantly white swan.
  • Follow this guide slowly and read it when no one is around.

Warnings

  • Try not to give up immediately: try again!
  • Pay attention to the edges of the paper: they are sharp and you certainly don't want to cut yourself because of an origami.
