Normally it is very rare to have to send an SMS to your mobile number or have to call it, so it is for this reason that for most people it is not important to know their mobile number, especially in the case of those who have subscribed to a monthly subscription with direct credit to a bank account or credit card and therefore does not foresee having to top up the SIM with other money for the purchase of voice or data traffic. It can also happen, simply, to buy a new SIM with a new mobile number and not have memorized it yet. However, being in possession of this information could sometimes be as important as knowing your name; for example to provide your contact information in the workplace even without being in possession of a business card. In any case, if you do not know the mobile number entered in your smartphone, you can trace this information using the data stored on the SIM card. If you already have your mobile number and are trying to identify the SIM card serial number (ICCID), read this article. In most cases, the ICCID code is printed directly on the SIM card, so you just need to remove it from its slot and write it down on a sheet of paper.
Steps
Method 1 of 7: Contact the Telephone Operator
Step 1. Contact an authorized dealer of the operator who owns the SIM card
If you have found an old SIM card when tidying up your office or desk at home and you don't have a smartphone to check the phone number, you can go directly to a service and sales point of the telephone company that issued it. The store staff should be able to provide you with all the information you need.
Step 2. Call the telephone operator's customer service
If you've just bought a new SIM card, but don't intend to use your company phone to activate it, find the customer service number of the carrier that issued the card. Remember that all SIM cards come with a serial number printed directly on the top. Provide this identification code to customer service personnel so that they can provide you with the associated telephone number.
Step 3. Understand how modern SIM cards work
Most telephone operators assign a mobile number to the card only when the card is sold or activated. When you buy a new SIM card from one of the major Italian operators, the latter is not assigned to any mobile number. The assignment is performed at the time of activation, which is normally carried out directly by the staff of the point of sale you contacted, after which you will be notified of the telephone number that has been associated.
Method 2 of 7: Use the SIM Card in any Mobile Phone
Step 1. Use the operator's customer service
Most telephone operators are equipped with an automatic responder able to provide you directly by voice or via SMS the telephone number associated with the SIM card inserted in the device in use. Call the number related to your telephone operator and follow the instructions that will be given to you:
- Vodafone users can call 190;
- TIM users can call 119;
- Users Three can call 133;
- Wind users can call 155;
- Poste Mobile users can call 401212.
- Smaller operators may or may not have such a service. In this case, search online using the name of the telephone company and the keywords "useful numbers".
Step 2. Call your carrier's customer support
Some SIM cards do not display their mobile number in the Settings application of the device. In these cases it is therefore necessary to call the customer support of the SIM manager directly to get the mobile number to which it is paired.
If you make the call directly with the device where the mystery SIM is installed, the call center operator who will welcome you should be able to automatically trace the phone number to which it is paired. If not, you will need to remove it from your smartphone and provide the support staff with the serial number printed on the card
Step 3. Send an SMS or call another phone number
Sometimes the simplest and quickest solution is the most trivial one. Try sending an SMS or making a call to another number using the device in which the SIM whose mobile number you want to find out is installed. Any mobile or landline device capable of displaying the caller's number will be able to automatically trace the mobile number of the SIM card in use (unless you are using a service that hides this information).
Method 3 of 7: iPhone
Use the Settings App
Step 1. Launch the "Settings" application
Tap the gear icon on one of the screens that make up the Home of your iPhone.
Step 2. Now tap on "Phone" in the "Settings" menu
Step 3. Look for "My number"
This text field displays the mobile number associated with the SIM card installed in the smartphone.
Using the Phone App
Step 1. Access the list of contacts stored in the device's address book
Touch the green icon in the shape of a telephone handset located at the bottom of the screen from anywhere on the Springboard (the latter is the iOS application that manages the Home screen of the device).
Step 2. Find your phone number
Go to the first item in the contact list on the iPhone. Place the index finger of your dominant hand above the first item on the list, then slide it down. The contact information for your device should appear, including the mobile number paired with the installed SIM.
Using iTunes
Step 1. Launch iTunes on your computer
This method should work on both Mac and Windows systems.
-
Attention:
if this is the first time you connect your iPhone to your computer, proceed with caution, a simple mistake could erase all the music on the device.
Step 2. Connect the iPhone to the computer using the supplied USB cable
Plug one end of the cable into the communication port on your iOS device, then plug the other end into a free USB port on your computer.
This method is also compatible with wireless syncing of an iPhone via Wi-Fi connection
Step 3. Log into the iTunes store if needed
Some users may see a pop-up window asking them to log into the iTunes Store. If this is the case, provide the Apple ID that your iPhone is paired with along with the security password.
If this pop-up window doesn't appear, you can skip this step
Step 4. If asked to synchronize, press the "Cancel" button
In some cases, a pop-up window may appear asking you to initialize and synchronize the device. If this is the case, press the "Cancel" button. Synchronizing with a computer other than your own or the one with which you normally perform this procedure causes the loss of all multimedia files on the device.
If this pop-up window doesn't appear, you can skip this step
Step 5. Press the iPhone-shaped button that appeared in the iTunes window
The exact location where it appears varies depending on the version of the program you are using:
- iTunes 12: Press the small iPhone-shaped button in the upper left corner of the window.
- iTunes 11: Press the button labeled "iPhone" in the upper right corner of the window. If you don't see it, select the "Library" item located at the top right of the window to exit the iTunes store. If you still can't find the button in question, go to the "View" menu, then choose the "Hide Sidebar" option.
- iTunes 10 and earlier: Look in the left sidebar for the "Devices" section. At this point, select the name of the device inside the latter.
Step 6. Search for your phone number
It should appear at the top of the iTunes window next to an iPhone icon.
If your mobile number is not visible, go to the "Summary" or "Summary" tab. It should be located at the top of the iTunes window or inside the left sidebar
Method 4 of 7: Android devices
Step 1. Access the smartphone settings
Tap the gear icon located inside the "Applications" panel.
Step 2. Choose the item "About device" or "About phone"
It should be located at the bottom of the "Settings" menu, so you'll need to scroll all the way down to find and select that option.
If you are using an LG G4, you will first need to access the "General" tab in order to select the "About phone" item
Step 3. Choose the "Status" option
Depending on the device in use, the mobile phone number associated with the SIM card will be displayed in one of the menus indicated.
Step 4. View the phone number
Scroll through the list that appeared on the "Status" screen to locate "My phone number". This field displays the mobile number associated with the SIM card installed in the device.
If this information is not present, look for the "SIM Card Status" option. If present, select it to have access to your phone number
Method 5 of 7: Windows Phone
Step 1. Access the contact list
Tap the "Phone" icon located directly on the device home. This way you will have access to the complete contact list.
Step 2. View available options
Access additional app settings by tapping the three-dot icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Choose the "Settings" option
It is located in the menu that appeared and allows you to access the configuration settings of the application that manages the contacts.
Step 4. View your number
Scroll through the menu that appeared to locate the "My phone number" field in which the mobile number associated with the SIM card should be displayed.
Step 5. Try using other menus
Depending on the manufacturer, some Windows Phones organize configuration options a little differently:
LG Optimus Quantum: select the "Menu" item, choose the "Settings" option, tap the "Applications" item, tap the "Phone" icon and finally locate the "My phone number" text field
Method 6 of 7: Blackberry smartphone
Step 1. View the apps installed on the device
Scroll through the pages that make up the smartphone home to view all the apps present. Simply swipe your finger across the screen from right to left.
Step 2. Access the configuration settings
Tap the gear icon located within one of the pages relating to the apps installed on your device to display the "System Settings" screen.
Step 3. Go to the "Category" section of the "About" screen
Choose the latter option on the "System Settings" page. Now access the "Category" drop-down menu.
Step 4. View the mobile number
Choose the "SIM Card" option from the "Category" drop-down menu. At this point the phone number associated with the SIM should appear on the screen.
Method 7 of 7: iPad
Step 1. Launch the "Settings" app
To do this, tap the gray gear icon.
Step 2. Choose the "Info" option
It is normally located at the top of the menu that appears after selecting the "General" item.
Step 3. Find the phone number paired with the SIM
This entry should appear after the device serial number ("Serial Number") text field. Unfortunately, however, in some cases this information is not detected and therefore does not appear in the menu.
Remember that the iPad is not designed to be able to make phone calls. In this case, the SIM card is used only to use the data traffic included in the relevant tariff plan
Advice
- The methods described in this article can only be applied to mobile phones that connect to GSM networks or that use a SIM card to function normally.
- If you have a phone that uses the CDMA network or that does not require a SIM card, you will need to call your telephone operator to find out the mobile number paired with the device.
