Moon phases can make magical rites more powerful. The moon takes 29 and a half days to complete a cycle and each phase develops a specific energy. This ritual is performed with the new or waxing moon. You can understand that it is really new when the visible face of the satellite is in shadow or when you can see the first segment of it in the evening sky.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Space for the Rite
Step 1. Choose a suitable setting for the ritual
The ceremonies that take place during the new moon are usually practiced by people dealing with magic, paganism, witchcraft, yoga, meditation and any other form of spiritual awareness. The venue for the rite should, if possible, be outdoors. This way, you can stay in touch with the outside world and harness the energy of nature.
If it is not possible to be outdoors, choose a room where you feel comfortable and in which you will not be disturbed
Step 2. Purify the area
This step is important to prepare for the new moon ritual. You can proceed in one of the following two ways. The first method involves sprinkling the seat with smoke; burnt sage sprigs are ideal, because they are associated with the moon. You can also cleanse the area by lighting incense. In this second case, know that the effective ones for the new moon rituals are lavender incense, officinal lemon balm and aromatic calamus.
To spread the smoke into the area, light the end of a sage stick and blow on it until you notice glowing embers. Shake it around your body and in the space where the ritual will take place
Step 3. Set up an altar
You can set up a very decorated or minimalist one, according to your preferences; it's all about personal tastes. Lay out a nice rug on the floor, with a pillow for each participant. Create an altar at the top of the carpet, taking care to add elements that connect you with nature (for example flowers) and that make you feel calm (such as incense or a pendant that has sentimental value for you.).
Use objects that refer to the four elements: a feather or incense for the air, a shell or bowl of water for the water, a stone or a handful of soil for the earth and finally a candle (white or silver to represent the Moon) for fire
Step 4. Light the candles
These are important elements for rituals, because they symbolize the inner light of individuals and allow you to visualize it in a real way.
- Different colored candles represent different energies and lead to distinct results. Choose the color that best suits the intentions of the ritual.
- Red symbolizes action, green symbolizes abundance, yellow symbolizes health, white symbolizes purity or spirituality, pink symbolizes love.
Part 2 of 3: Choosing the Rite of the Moon
Step 1. Decide the intentions with which you will perform the ritual
The time of the new moon is perfect for making a new beginning, finding a new love, starting to heal, or renewing a commitment to an old decision. Write a few words or phrases that reflect what you hope to achieve through the ritual.
Step 2. Choose some words to say in the ritual
If you wish, you can prepare or research some terms that you will say during the ceremony. They can be offers of gratitude, or you can express hopes for the future. You can say what you prefer, your goal remains to connect with nature and the people around you.
- If you want to give thanks to nature, you can say a phrase like: "Mother Earth who gives life and light to all of us, thank you for the blessed gifts that you bestow every day".
- If you want a specific wish to come true, you can say, "I am here today to offer a sacrifice to the universe so that my wish becomes a reality."
- If you are performing the ritual in the company of other people, you should give each participant the opportunity to express their purpose in this way.
Step 3. Add some details that can help create the right atmosphere
During a new moon ritual you should feel inspired and full of energy. By reciting a poem or singing a song you will be able to develop the right mental attitude towards the ceremony.
- Try reciting a poem by Rumi for inspiration:
-
I am the moon, everywhere
and nowhere.
Don't look for me outside;
I live in your own life.
Everyone calls you towards himself;
I invite you only within yourself.
Poetry is the boat
and its meaning is the sea.
Come aboard, now!
Let me lead this boat."
Part 3 of 3: Performing the Moon Rite
Step 1. Recognize the energy of the elements
Call the energy of each element back to you from the related direction. Fire is in the south, water in the west, earth in the north and air in the east.
- Note: The corresponding directions vary based on your precise location.
- Say something similar to: "I call upon the forces of the elements to assist me on this path. The fire of the south, the water of the west, the earth of the north and the air of the east."
- Consider reciting a text that celebrates the objects you have associated with each direction.
Step 2. Say your speech
When you have reached a state of peace and serenity, it is time to read or say some words that reflect the intention with which you perform the ritual. If you wish, you can burn the paper on which you wrote the sentences with the flame of the candle. As it burns, imagine your words or intentions being transported into the universe through the smoke.
- If you cannot reach a peaceful and calm state because there is something troubling you; this stage could be the perfect one to admit the problem. Imagine the source of the worry or pain being taken away by the candle smoke.
- If the new moon rite is held in a group, provide each participant with the opportunity to read their intentions and burn the paper with a candle flame.
Step 3. Perform a symbolic act
This is a very powerful detail for raising awareness of your intentions, as it allows you to physically visualize your desire. Come up with a gesture and feel free to use creativity.
- If your desire is for your book to be published, write it on a sheet of paper tied to a helium-filled balloon to release into the sky.
- If you want to find love, put some lavender and rose quartz in a bag along with a description of the ideal partner. Also write your wish and put it in the bag.
- Each person who takes part in the ritual should be able to perform their own symbolic gesture.
Step 4. Share your resolutions with others
If there are other people present at the ceremony, take some time out so that everyone can communicate their wishes to the group. In this way, you strengthen your cohesion and mutually increase the energies directed towards your desires.
Step 5. Thank the energies of nature
By doing so, you close the access gates to the various elements you have called to you. Each participant should conclude the ceremony in the way they see fit. An ideal way would be to recite one of the following phrases:
- "May my spell be powerful and harm no one."
- "May my wish come true, by the power of the trio."
- "So be it".
Advice
- Keep track of what you did during the rite, so that you have points of reference in the future.
- Remember that ritual and spells are an art, it takes time and practice to master the correct technique. Don't be discouraged if your first attempts are unsuccessful.
