If you would like to draw a female body but don't know where to start, then follow this tutorial step by step.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Method One: Front and Side Perspective
Step 1. Draw the guidelines of a human figure
If you want to draw as realistically as possible, studying human proportions and anatomy is strongly recommended.
Step 2. Trace the shape of the body to give volume to the human figure
Step 3. Sketch the human figure using the body shape as a guide
Step 4. Trace the outline line of the sketch to finalize the design
Step 5. Erase the guidelines
Step 6. Add the basic colors of the figure
Step 7. Add shadows if needed
Method 2 of 2: Method Two: Draw Using Foreshortening
Step 1. Foreshortening is a drawing style in which a three dimensional object appears shorter than its actual length due to its oblique position to the observer
For example, the image shown represents how a cylinder looks when viewed from the side and how it appears shorter when the observer changes position, until we can only see the circular edge when the top points directly at the observer.
Step 2. Draw the guidelines of a human figure
Note: The higher left arm and right leg appear shorter as they point directly at the viewer.
Step 3. Trace the shape of the body to give volume to the human figure
The same principle of foreshortening is applied to the arm and leg as the cylinder is used to shape the arms and legs.
Step 4. Sketch the human figure using the body shape as a guide
Step 5. Trace the outline line of the sketch to finalize the design
Step 6. Erase the guidelines
Step 7. Add the base colors
Step 8. Add shadows if needed
Advice
- The more you practice, the better you will become!
- Space out the different sections and make sure the proportions are correct before adding details. You certainly don't want to end up dedicating time and effort to two dazzling eyes, before realizing that one is higher than the other.
- To check that the aspect ratio is correct, look at the image upside down. This is a great trick for anyone looking for accuracy.
- Compare body parts and sections with other sections. A finger or a pencil can serve as a mark. Simply look at the drawing from a distance with a slanted eye and check if the parts are spaced correctly.
- As you draw the female body, remember that women have smaller shoulders than men. It is a very common mistake to draw a woman who is bigger and bulky than the norm, or too small. Observe the proportions as you draw to make sure you keep your anatomy harmonious.
- Look in the mirror at the pose you are depicting, always check the limbs and other parts of the body.
