Does your hair need a moisturizing treatment? Eggs and olive oil, two inexpensive ingredients you most likely have in your pantry, can transform them from dull and dull to silky and bright after just one application. Nourish your hair once a week with this mask to keep it healthy and strong at any time of the year.
Ingrediants
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make a Mask to Nourish Dry Hair
Step 1. Separate the yolks from the whites
To make a mask for dry hair, you only need the egg yolks. Egg yolks contain fats and proteins that moisturize and invigorate dry, dull hair. Separate the egg yolks from the whites and place them in a small bowl.
To easily separate the egg yolk from the white, tap the shell against the edge of the bowl to break it apart. Hold the egg vertically over a second bowl and gently peel off the top half of the shell. Slowly pass the yolk, several times, from one half to the other and drop the egg white into the container below, then deposit the yolk in the small bowl in which you will prepare the mask. Alternatively, you can use egg oil
Step 2. Beat the egg yolks with the olive oil
Pour the extra virgin olive oil into the bowl with the egg yolks and mix with a whisk until you get a mixture with a uniform and creamy consistency. The indicated doses allow you to prepare more than 100 ml of mask, which is an amount suitable for medium length hair.
- If your hair is very long or thick, add a third tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil;
- If they are short, use a single tablespoon of oil.
Step 3. Apply the mask to damp hair
When the hair is slightly wet, it is easier to distribute the mask evenly from the roots to the ends. Apply it to your hair with your hands and then use a wide-toothed comb to distribute it evenly over each strand.
- If you have particularly dry ends, use more of the mask from mid-length onwards and less on the roots.
- If you have too much of the mask, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate it for use within a week.
Step 4. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes
To avoid soiling your clothes or the floor, you can pull your hair up in a bun and wear a shower cap (or wrap it in cling film). Wait patiently for the mask to do its job by deeply moisturizing your hair.
Step 5. Wash your hair with cold water
Shampoo to remove excess oil and egg for clean, soft and shiny hair. It is important to use cold or lukewarm water when washing them to avoid "cooking" the egg yolks on the hair.
Step 6. Dry your hair as usual
You can let them air dry or use a hairdryer. The result will surprise you: your hair will be soft, hydrated and will look healthier.
Method 2 of 3: Make a Mask Suitable for Oily Hair
Step 1. Separate the egg whites from the yolks
If your scalp is producing a lot of sebum, egg yolks are too oily for you. Prepare the mask using only the egg whites, they will act by eliminating excess oils from the hair, which will be soft and shiny. Separate the egg whites from the yolks and set the seconds aside.
To easily separate egg white from egg yolk, tap the shell against the edge of a small bowl to break it apart. Hold the egg vertically over the bowl and gently peel off the top half of the shell. Slowly switch the yolk from one half to the other and drop the egg white into the bowl
Step 2. Beat the egg whites with the olive oil
Pour the extra virgin olive oil into the bowl with the egg whites and mix with a whisk until you get a smooth and creamy mixture. The indicated doses allow you to prepare more than 100 ml of mask, which is an amount suitable for medium-length hair.
- If your hair is very long or thick, add a third tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil or another egg white.
- If they are short, use a single tablespoon of oil or just an egg white.
Step 4. Let the mask work for 20 minutes
To avoid soiling your clothes or the floor, you can pull your hair up in a bun and wear a shower cap (or wrap it in cling film). Wait patiently for the mask to do its job by deeply moisturizing your hair.
Step 5. Wash your hair with cold water
Shampoo to remove excess oil and egg thus making your hair clean, soft and shiny. It is important to use cold or lukewarm water when washing your hair to avoid "cooking" the egg whites on your hair.
Step 6. Dry your hair as usual
You can let them air dry or use a hairdryer. The result will surprise you: your hair will be soft, hydrated and will look healthier.
Method 3 of 3: Alternative Recipes
Step 1. Use a whole egg to nourish the hair
If you don't have olive oil at home and you need a quick fix to hydrate your hair naturally, simply beat an egg with a fork. After shampooing, distribute the egg on wet hair with the help of a wide-toothed comb, from roots to ends. Leave this simple mask on for 5 minutes, then rinse your hair with cold or lukewarm water. This DIY conditioner is suitable for any hair type.
Step 2. Add some other moisturizing ingredients
If your hair is extremely dry and damaged, you can resort to the nourishing and beneficial properties of other ingredients besides egg and oil. For example, you can increase the effectiveness of the mask by adding a tablespoon of:
- Honey;
- Aloe vera gel;
- Milk;
- Mashed very ripe banana or avocado.
Step 3. Replace olive oil with another type of oil
If this is your first time making this mask, extra virgin olive oil is a great place to start. If you are happy with the result, you can try using a different oil to see if it suits your hair needs. Test one of the following strains the next time you make the mask:
- Jojoba oil (it is indicated for normal or oily hair);
- Almond oil (it is indicated for normal or dry hair);
- Coconut oil (it is indicated for dry hair);
- Ghee (to moisturize the hair and prevent it from turning gray).
Step 4. Perfume your hair mask
If you want it to smell like a beauty salon product rather than a cooking recipe, add a few drops of essential oil to the blend of ingredients. A few drops will be enough to instantly transform the fragrance of the mask. During the pose time, you will enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy. Try adding 5 to 10 drops of one of the following essential oils:
- Lavender;
- Pink;
- Lemongrass;
- Thyme;
- Vetiver.
Advice
- Before applying the mask, massage your scalp for 5 minutes to improve blood flow to your head.
- The longer the processing time, the greater the nourishment received by the hair, which will therefore be incredibly soft.
- You can use a few drops of peppermint essential oil to reduce dandruff and effectively eliminate buildup of cosmetic products from your hair.
