It takes some time and practice to get the origami of a flower… but once you learn it, you can show all your friends your new specialty! This article shows you how to fold origami paper to make a tulip.

Steps

Step 1. Make sure you start with a perfectly square piece of paper

Step 2. Start by arranging the card so that it looks like a diamond

Step 3. Fold the bottom tip up to the top

You should now have a triangle.

Step 4. Fold the triangle in half by folding the left tip over the right tip

Step 5. Unfold and repeat the fold, but in reverse

You open. You should have a triangle with a mark along the center.

Step 6. Fold the tip of the bottom left triangle over the top and center so that it meets the top tip

Mark the fold. Do the same with the bottom right tip. Mark the fold. Open both ends.

Step 7. Turn the model upside down

Fold the left and right tips down to the bottom. You open. You should now end up with an upside down triangle and three different fold lines.

Step 8. Place your fingers between the two flaps at the bottom tip of the triangle (one flap on the front, one on the back) and separate them, while using your other hand to hold the top in place

Step 9. Using both hands, push both ends in and down, so that the two outer fold lines meet in the center

As if you were "crushing" the triangle.

Step 10. The centerline of the crease should "pop out"

Fold this protruding flap to the left. Flip the model over and fold the other protruding flap to the left.

Step 11. You should now end up with another, smaller triangle

Step 12. On the lower left tip, you should have two layers

Lift the top one up and fold it to the top of the triangle.

Step 13. Repeat with the lower right tip

Step 14. You should now have a smaller diamond in the center of the triangle

Fold the left tip of this diamond to the right until it meets the right tip of the diamond.

Step 15. Flip the model over

Again, fold the bottom left and bottom right tips up until you meet the tip of the triangle.

Step 16. You should now have a diamond

Lift the top layer on the left side of the diamond and fold it to the right until it meets the right tip of the diamond.

Step 17. You should now have a diamond that has no seam on either side, only crease lines running through the center

Step 18. Fold the top layers on the right and left side of the diamond towards the center, and insert one layer inside the other

(Look carefully at the edge of each layer, there should be two layers inside one, forming an opening. Insert the tip of one side into the opening of the other.) Squeeze and flatten the model.

Step 19. Turn it over, and repeat the previous step on the other side

Step 20. Lift the model, and turn it so that the swollen end is facing you

Pull the tip away from the bottom, and you will see a small hole in the base of the model. To facilitate the next step, you may want to use a pencil or pen. Push it into the hole to widen it a bit and then take it out.

Step 21. Place your mouth against the hole and gently blow into it

The model will swell.

Step 22. Look at the top of the model

You will see four spikes on the outside. Pull them down and out as if you were peeling a banana.

Step 23. Show your complete origami to all your friends
