Can't get a song out of your head that you don't know? You would like to listen to it again, but you don't know what it's called. Here are a number of methods to find out.
Steps
Step 1. Google it, typing everything you know about the song into the search engine
Add all the information you have: what TV show did you hear it on, pieces of text, if it is sung by a man, woman or group … Inserting the word "text" in the quotes could help you refine your search. Don't forget to put the text in quotes.
Step 2. An app
There are free services that analyze the sound and tell you if it matches a song in their database.
- If you have an iPhone or Android smartphone, download and install Shazam from the App Store. The next time you happen to hear the song, throw it to recognize it.
- Tunatic is software that analyzes a sample of music and tries to give you the name of the piece. If you record a part of the song you want to identify, go to Tunatic and download their application. Install it and follow the instructions.
- If you have a smartphone, download SoundHound. If you have a computer with a microphone, try Midomi. Both allow you to tune the song you are looking for to identify it.
- Try SongTapper and beat the beat of the song as you sing it in your head.
Step 3. Use iTunes
If you've heard the song on TV or in a movie, look for the soundtrack. After finding it, listen to the samples of the various tracks on the album.
Step 4. Listen to the DJ
If you hear the song on the radio, listen carefully: the DJ might say the title.
Many radio stations post a list of the songs they've just passed on their websites. If the radio you are interested in does not, call to ask if they can help you find out the title of the song
Step 5. Does the song sound familiar to you?
Do you seem to recognize the voice? Maybe, you already know the artist in question. If that's the case, do a search on sites dedicated to the singer or band.
