Applying wall stickers (stickers) is a quick and easy way to add a new style to any room. These decorations are designed to be quickly attached to the wall, making the process as simple as possible. You can beautify a space on your own in no time by following the tips in this article.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Preparation
Step 1. Choose the space
Find the perfect area to apply the sticker; look for any bare wall that might benefit from some decor or an old room that needs updating. Make a note of the details of the space you plan to use.
- Take the measurements of the surface.
- Look at the existing decorations and colors.
- Think about every possible arrangement of the sticker.
Step 2. Find the decal
Find the one that best matches the room; use the measurements and notes you wrote earlier as a guide for choosing.
- Try to find colors that match each other.
- Purchase a sticker that is the right size for the surface.
- Think about the feeling that the shape and style of the stickers can convey.
- Choose a decoration you like!
Step 3. Clean the surface
It is extremely important to eliminate all traces of dirt and grease. Thanks to the clean wall, the adhesive can adhere correctly; if you leave dirt or grease stains, the decoration sticks to them instead of the wall.
- Eliminate any oily or dust residues to improve the application process.
- Get rid of the dirt with a wet fist.
- Use a small amount of soap to clean the greasy areas.
- Make sure the wall is dry before attaching the adhesive.
Step 4. Adjust the position of the sticker
Make sure that the adhesive fits well in the place you have chosen for the application; remember that one wall decal can be removed, but most are not reusable. Check that the chosen position suits you, to avoid damaging the decoration.
- Secure it to the wall with adhesive tape without removing the protective back film.
- Take a step back and see how the decoration matches the rest of the setting.
- Make changes until you are satisfied with the final result.
Step 5. Decide on the final position
Get a ruler and a pencil. Use the momentary application of the sticker to draw guidelines that will help you define the exact place to attach the decoration.
- Place the spirit level on the wall.
- Raise or lower the ends of the level, move it to the right or left until the bubble is in the center.
- Draw a light line on the wall along the edge of the level for reference.
Part 2 of 2: Application
Step 1. Attach the sticker
This phase requires precision and concentration. Try to apply it as close as possible to the guideline you drew.
- Remove the film that protects the adhesive side of the decoration.
- Align the decal with the reference stroke.
- Adhere the wall sticker carefully to the surface of your choice.
- Go slowly and take your time to do a precise job.
Step 2. Finish the application
Smooth the surface of the sticker using a water brush; be careful to remove all air bubbles present, to prevent the surface from being uneven and for the glue to adhere properly to the wall.
- Work from the center towards the edges of the sticker.
- Always push bubbles to an outer edge to clear them.
- Try to get the smoothest surface possible.
Step 3. Remove the protective film
It is a layer that repairs the front of the decoration, but the time has come to reveal the sticker. By removing this film you can finally see the final effect of the sticker in the room.
- Remove the protection slowly and carefully.
- If you have difficulty, moisten the paper with water.
- If the decal comes off along with the protective film, stop and try to glue that area again.
Advice
- If you don't have a water brush, you can use a credit card or other similar item.
- Check that the surface is perfectly dry and clean before applying the adhesive.
- Many stickers are easy to remove and should simply peel off like a film.
- Check that the sticker is level and oriented correctly before attaching it to the wall.
